Lead Data Warehouse Developer Band 8a Job Title: Team: Directorate: Band: Responsible to: Accountable to: Base: Lead Data Warehouse Developer Business Intelligence Operations 8a Data Warehouse and Security Manager Head of Business Intelligence - Development Jubilee House, Leyland, Preston Context Take a lead role in the development of complex data structures & data models to support the CSU s Data Warehouse and related systems. The post holder will act as the lead developer within the Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Team, and will be responsible for the delivery of well designed, high performance products. This includes responsibility for overall management, design, performance and delivery of database structures, data capture & loading systems, processing models, and data outputs including standardised data models and cubes, as well as the line management of a small team of developers. The post holder will work closely with the Senior DBA in developing, maintaining & optimising data models and processing & storage plans. In addition the post holder will be expected to work closely with the BI development team to support rapid product development & deployment, and with other CSU BI customers, both internal and external, to drive targeted product development. Role and Responsibilities Work proactively to identify and prioritise solutions that improve the Business Intelligence service of the CSU Responsibility for the design, implementation, testing, deployment and support of data models, storage plans, optimisation strategies, design of data cubes and other data outputs to support the BI product Design, create, implement and update reference tables as and when required Design and produce thorough and detailed test plans and scripts which are adopted prior to the release of new and / or updated data sets Working alongside other developers and business intelligence analysts in carrying out testing activities
Work with the senior DBA in troubleshooting & optimising SQL Server and SharePoint in terms of data access and retrieval Proactive in suggesting improvements and amendments to existing BI products, tools, database structures, queries, reports, etc. and responsibility for implementing any changes Maintain & develop complex ETL processes using SSIS Maintain & develop multidimensional cubes using SSAS and MDX programming Support the analytical teams in the development of complex SSRS reports and PowerPivot solutions Support the rollout of the Tableau BI Visualisation tool, designing efficient & consistent data models to support Tableau based reporting Work closely with the DSCRO & Processing Unit teams to develop efficient flows of processed datasets into the Data Warehouse Line management and mentoring of the DW team, potentially across multiple geographical sites Assist in upgrades and enhancements of the BI SharePoint solution Fully document all reports and systems developed Recommend, implement and manage change control and source control procedures for the wider development team Act as a technical expert and reference point for wider technical queries Manage, prioritise and allocate work within the DW team Deliver technical tutoring & training to other members of the DW & wider development teams Communicate complex ideas to lay audiences at all levels Assume responsibility for existing complex data structures and processes with a view to their optimisation and further development Conduct critical reviews of existing solutions with a view to achieving simplification and/or performance increases Ensure compliance with current Information Governance regulations, particularly in relation to the storage & processing of patient identifiable data Contribute to the maintenance & development of the BI system security model Keep up to date with the latest technical advances within the agreed technical specialisms Suggest changes to the team processes and approach to bring about improvements in the team s ability to deliver Demonstrate/present potential solutions to customers, identifying additional requirements and changes Assume technical ownership of a number of live systems & processes and be responsible for deciding the technical approach for changes, as well as proactively raising technical issues with the system QA the work of other members of the development team, and recommend corrections and/or improvements as required
