Situated within the City boundary in attractive landscaped surroundings, close to the Oxford ring-road and within easy reach of the A34, M4 and M40. A direct bus route to Oxford is also available. The Magdalen Centre is a purpose-built innovation centre and provides a Coffee Bar, Cafe and Meeting rooms. The Sadler Building is a an amenity building, intended as a focal point for the Science Park, providing a Grab & Go Coffee Shop, Bar, Brasserie and Meeting rooms. MAIN DUTIES Service DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES 1. Assist in the general preparation of the services in the unit 2. Serve meals, snacks, and beverages to the standards required by your line manager 3. Deal with customers at all times in a friendly and helpful manner 4. Explain to customers the name and ingredients of each dish prepared on site 5. Handle cash/other payments effectively using an EPOS system 6. Stock and replenish counters, service points, as necessary 7. Ensure FOH is setup and ready for service 8. Pass on customer comments and feedback to your manager 9. Prepare, deliver and clear hospitality to schedule 10. Produce Barrister style coffees 11. Working closely with your team ensuring you assist them during busy periods
12. Prepare and serve alcoholic and soft drinks to the public in accordance with the 2003 Licensing Act 13. Assist in preparing, setting up and managing events Supervisory 1. Manage the cleaning of the FOH in accordance with Cleaning Control Sheets 2. Ensure that all catering facilities are safe and secured at the end of each shift 3. Manage the presentation of food, confectionary & drinks 4. Manage the monitoring and recording of temperatures 5. Manage the presentation of the FOH team in accordance with the uniform policy 6. Supervise the front of house team, delegate tasks and manage performance 7. Organise cover for the front of house during absence using casual employees and agency staff when necessary, ensuring the most cost effective solution is implemented 8. Manage morning and lunch breaks 9. Ensure posters, tariffs and price labels and menus are current and displayed neatly 10. Feedback to your line manager any comments or concerns received from your team 11. Manage till variances 12. Ensure storage areas are kept organised, tidy and perishable goods are stored in rotation 13. Hold weekly team meetings Administrative & Cash Control Duties 1. Cash up tills and complete safe checks using the appropriate control sheets and immediately report variances of 5 or greater to the Food & Beverage Manager 2. Accurately complete a stocktake for all Front of House products and ensure it is recorded using an online procurement system. 3. Accurately prepare the banking in accordance to specification 4. Ensure sufficient change is ordered 5. Stock, clean, cash up and complete control sheets for the vending machine 6. Add, update and remove products from the EPOS system 7. Place all orders in a timely manner using online procurement system whilst ensuring waste is kept to a minimum 8. Match up and check delivery notes and invoices 9. Book off deliveries and request credits through the online procurement system 10. Collate, check and file all Control Sheets on a weekly basis and report any concerns to the Food and Beverage Manager 11. Process payroll on a weekly basis and send it to the Food and Beverage Manager 12. Record and manage absence using the team tracker on a weekly basis and send it to the Food and Beverage Manager 13. Complete costings for new products ensuring the budgeted GP is achieved 14. Be aware of up and coming events and meetings ensuring they have been adequately prepared for 15. Manage First Aid boxes and maintain their stock levels
Hygiene, Health & Safety 1. Carry out any duties in a safe manner 2. Complete company documents required 3. Complete the control sheets, such as hot and cold holding temperatures and cleaning schedules 4. Report any accidents to your line manager 5. Ensure a high standard of personal cleanliness at all times; and work in a hygienic way 6. Comply with Company and statutory regulations concerning Hygiene, Health & Safety 7. Undertake the required cleaning duties of catering equipment, walls, floors, fixtures and fittings 8. Ensure out of date (Use By) food and food unfit for human consumption is disposed OCCASIONAL DUTIES 1. To report to management immediately any accidents, fires, thefts, losses, damage, or other irregularities 2. To receive any training that may be necessary 3. To attend management and staff meetings as necessary OTHER DUTIES 1. The requirement to work in association with all kinds of food e.g. meats, poultry, fish 2. The requirement to be present in the work place at critical times e.g. service times 3. Carry out any reasonable request from management The above list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and you may be required to carry out alternative tasks as instructed to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Catering department. This position is mainly based in The Magdalen Centre, but you may be requested to work in the Sadler Building from time to time.
PERSON SPECIFICATION Experience as a supervisor in the food service industry Experience in using Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel Level 2 numeracy Food Hygiene Certificate Knowledge of Health and Safety Effective communication & interpersonal skills Proactive and self-motivated attitude to work Experience in using EPOS systems Experience in cash handling including cashing up, safe checks, banking and managing vending machines Organised and experienced in working to deadlines Experience in managing small events Experience in working in a licenced premises Strong organisational skills Ability lead, motivate and manage a team Well presented Experience in producing Barrister style coffees Enjoys interacting with customers and members of the team The ability to work under pressure SALARY 17,000.00-19,500.00 per annum depending on experience and qualifications HOURS OF WORK The hours will be 40 hours per a week. Normal hours of work will be 7.00 am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, but will occasionally involve working evenings, weekends and bank holidays. In order to maintain an efficient service at all times the successful incumbent will need to be flexible and adapt to the changing priorities and demands of the business to meet customer needs. HOLIDAY Holiday entitlement is 25 days per annum excluding Bank Holidays. Some Bank Holidays may be regarded as normal working days and may need to be taken at a later date. Some set holidays must be taken when the catering department is closed.
