1 Estates and Facilities Division UEA Catering Services The Post KITCHEN PORTER REF: GG409 Term Time Only (39 weeks per year) UEA Catering Services, The Campus Kitchen provides food offers ranging from restaurant counter service to fine dining all year round. Our customers include students, staff, conference delegates and visitors. Working in the main kitchen the postholder will be responsible for seeing the hygiene standards of the kitchen are met. The role holder will need to be able to carry out a range of manual tasks. No formal qualifications are required, and full training will be provided for the right applicant, although previous experience in a similar position within the catering industry is desirable. The precise duties will be agreed in discussion with the Manager. Person Specification The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix B. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate within their application how they meet the essential criteria for the role and provide evidence to support this. GENERAL Salary Salary will be 11,369 per annum derived from an hourly rate of per hour, on point 1, Grade 1 on the single salary spine. 1

2 Starting Date The post is available immediately on an indefinite, full-time basis term-time only. The role holder will be required to work any five days from seven and across the working day covering early mornings and evenings on a roster basis, as the business deems it necessary. The role holder will be required to work in any UEA Catering Services outlet as directed by management. Terms and Conditions of Appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for Catering Staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered. Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of 20 days plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays, pro rata for part-time staff. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. 5 APPENDIX A JOB DESCRIPTION REF: GG409 Job Title: Kitchen Porter Grade: 1 Division: Reporting to: Catering Services, The Campus Kitchen, Estates and Facilities Division Head Chef Job Function/Purpose To be responsible for the general cleaning and washing of utensils, equipment and premises to the standard required by the department and as directed. 1. Kitchen Duties Clear, wash and service all table and eating utensils to the required standards. Clean and maintain the kitchen and storage areas to the required standards. Movement and storage of raw materials, rubbish and equipment as necessary. 2. Health & Safety and Hygiene All staff are expected to observe all health and safety at work regulations as set out by the UEA in accordance with its statutory obligations. Adhere to procedures for the reporting of accidents and incidents (including environmental incidents). Report any unsafe practices or broken machinery/equipment to the Head Chef so remedial action can be taken immediately. Ensure correct use, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; using equipment as instructed through relevant training and observing all safe practices, so accidents are avoided. Undertake Food Hygiene training as required. Follow COSHH procedures and ensure HACCP s processes are followed and recorded as required. Maintain a high standard of personal and food hygiene to comply with statutory and University requirements. Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all kitchen and related areas. Ensure security, fire and emergency procedures, and UEA practices, are adhered to. 3. Any Other Duties Ensure a smart and professional image at all times. Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be requested of a Kitchen Porter to suit the operational needs of the business. To attend training courses and staff meetings as required. Participate in staff training and act as a point of reference for less experienced colleagues. 5

6 Maintain an awareness of, and understand the practical application of, the UEA Environmental Policy and ensure good environmental practice is adhered to in all catering activities e.g. waste management, energy efficiency. 4. Irregular Duties To assist in other units as may be required during staff shortages or in an emergency. February
