EHS CLASS DESCRIPTION & TARGET AUDIENCE 12/07/05 Bloodborne Pathogens A general awareness session addressing the precautions, health issues and campus protocols in dealing with blood-related events. This is a class designed to provide every employee with a basic understanding of the actions to take when confronted with blood in the workplace. This class is combined with the New Employee Safety Orientation. INITIALLY Boiler Safety A class focused on the potential hazards associated with boiler maintenance. The proper safety practices and related Cal/OSHA standards are discussed. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES TRADES (BSE) Chemical Inventory Management System This class offers an introduction into the newly implemented chemical inventory management system, the system requirements, the user's responsibilities, and future implementation plans. By attending this session you will leave knowledgeable and confident in the bar code system, retrieving information, and the process of chemical reconciliation. TARGET AUDIENCE: USERS OF CHEMICALS ON CAMPUS Chemical Safety A session for all non-laboratory users of hazardous material(s) on campus. Attendees will be instructed on the hazards, health implications, and protocols to follow in using hazardous substances safely. TARGET AUDIENCE: NON-LABORATORY HAZARDOUS MATERIAL USERS Confined Space Entry Training will constitute best management practices, University protocols and Cal/OSHA standards related to entering any confined space on campus. Requests for this class session can be made to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES TRADES (Grounds/Plumbing/Electrical/Refrigeration & BSE) Defensive Driver Training Class - 15 Passenger Van (6 Hours) Training will incorporate the standard defensive driving training highlighting DMV requirements, safe distances and inclement weather driving with an emphasis on 15- passenger van vehicles. Awareness on backing up and blind spots for a van are included. This is a 6-hour session and afterwards you receive a certification card from DGS valid for four (4)-years. Registration on-line with valid California driver s license number (CADL) in advance is required and must be completed by the campus State vehicle training coordinator. Please contact the campus Risk Management Analyst at extension 3-3534 to reserve a seat and provide your valid CADL. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL DRIVERS OF VANS FOR STATE BUSINESS

Defensive Driver Training Class - Standard (3.5 Hours) Training will incorporate the general defensive driving training highlighting DMV requirements, safe distances and inclement weather driving. The emphasis is on accident prevention. This is a 3-1/2 hour session and afterwards you receive a certification card valid for four (4)-years. Registration on-line with valid California driver s license number (CADL) in advance is required and must be completed by the campus State vehicle training coordinator. Please contact the campus Risk Management Analyst at extension 3-3534 to reserve a seat and provide your valid CADL. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL DRIVERS OF STATE VEHICLES OR PERSONAL VEHICLES FOR STATE BUSINESS Electrical Safety A general awareness training for skilled personnel performing electrical work and/or who may perform work as a qualified worker under the Cal/OSHA standard CCR, Title 8, Section 2320. Requests for this class session can be made to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES TRADES (Electrical/Grounds/Refrigeration/BSE & Plumbing) Ergonomics A session designed to highlight the proper and improper work techniques associated with an ergonomically configured office workstation. Special emphasis will be spent on computer workstation configurations and the Cal/OSHA standard. Requests for ergonomic workstation evaluations should be routed through the department's fiscal officer and/or area Manager to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3527. TARGET AUDIENCE: OFFICE PERSONNEL/COMPUTER USERS Ergonomics: Management Workshop This session is designed to acquaint middle management with the warning signs of cumulative trauma injury, proper workstation configuration, and the resources available to assist with the proper assessment of employees. Specific Cal/OSHA requirements on mandatory versus voluntary workstation adjustments will be discussed. Requests for this class session can be made to the EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: MPP EMPLOYEES, SPECIFICALLY MIDDLE MANAGEMENT Fire Prevention An interactive training exercise that involves a brief lecture on the various types of fire extinguishers, their applications, differences, and basic fire prevention techniques. The session includes a hands-on exercise where every student is provided an opportunity to extinguish an actual fire, under controlled conditions. Forklift Certification A class designed to evaluate forklift operators on proper use and safety measures related to forklift use. All forklift users must attend this certification class annually. A driver test is required for successful completion and certification. Upon successfully completing this course you will be issued a certification valid for one-year. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL FORKLIFT OPERATORS

General Office Safety This course is designed to provide general office staff with the understanding and knowledge necessary to perform their duties safely. Basic elements include ergonomics, housekeeping, egress, and disaster preparedness. This class has been combined with the New Employee Safety Orientation. Requests for this class session can be made to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL OFFICE STAFF/WORKERS Hearing Conservation This course is designed to provide awareness and instruction on high noise environments, the personal protective equipment available, and the Cal/OSHA standards designating the frequency and duration thresholds. Personnel will be baselined with a hearing test initially. This course shall focus on personnel working in high noise environments. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES TRADES PERSONNEL & DEPARTMENT TECHNICIANS Heat Stress Safety This course shall be focused on those workers whose primary duties involve working outside. The course will heighten awareness to the symptoms of a heat illness, the appropriate corrective measures, planning of the work, and associated protective actions to be taken. The course shall address the Cal/OSHA standard(s) relevant to this topic. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES TRADES PERSONNEL AND GROUNDS WORKERS. IIPP/Hazard Communication & MSDS A thorough review of the University Injury & Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), plus detailed safety guidelines for the purchase, receipt, storage and handling of chemicals, including a review of a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). This class is conducted individually and as combined with the New Employee Safety Orientation. Laboratory Safety A session for all laboratory users of hazardous materials on campus. This class provides an in-depth review of proper laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, hazardous waste management, the University Chemical Hygiene Plan, and an understanding of Cal/OSHA guidelines. Requests for this class session can be made to the RM/EHS Office at extension 3-3546. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL LABORATORY CHEMICAL USERS/OCCUPANTS Ladder Safety A general safety awareness session focused on the proper use of wooden and metal ladders, and the Cal/OSHA guidelines pertaining to their use. Requests for this class should be directed to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL FACILITIES, FINE ARTS & THEATRE ARTS PERSONNEL Lockout/Tagout (General) A class designed to sensitize those likely to come in contact with de-energized systems and equipment-in-work conditions on the Cal/OSHA guidelines and safety protocols associated with the Lockout/Tagout of mechanical equipment. This class session has

been combined with the New Employee Safety Orientation. Specific requests for individual classes should be made to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. Lockout/Tagout (Trades) This session is for those responsible for actually using the lockout/tagout procedures. Individuals who apply the locks, service equipment requiring isolation, and work directly on the mechanical equipment should attend. Requests for individual class sessions should be made with the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL FACILITIES TRADES Machine Shop Safety Basic training on the proper safety protocols associated with equipment in a machine shop environment. Cal/OSHA standards on guarding, equipment use and maintenance are stressed. Requests for class sessions should be made with the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES & BUILDING MACHINE SHOP PESONNEL (Auto/BSE/Plumbing/Carpenter/Electrical) New Employee Safety Orientation This training is required for all new hires and will be available during the month that the employee attends their new hire orientation. The individual should contact the EHS Office to register for the class session. This training incorporates Hazard Communication, IIPP, Material Safety Data Sheets, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Prevention, General Office Safety, and Personal Protective Equipment training topics. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL NEW EMPLOYEES Personal Protective Equipment This class addresses all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, including special applications, their proper use and maintenance. This topic will be incorporated in the New Employee Safety Orientation and individual class sessions may be requested by contacting the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL HAZARDOUS MATERIAL USERS, FACILITIES TRADES, MACHINE SHOP PERSONNEL & RECEIVING/PROPERTY PERSONNEL Pesticide Safety A general awareness session to familiarize pesticide/fungicide/rodenticide applicators with the Cal/OSHA standards and FIFRA regulations that apply to their use. This class session may be requested by contacting the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES GROUNDS PERSONNEL Powered Platforms The proper safe operation of industrial vehicles such as lifts, condors, and ground's equipment will be stressed with an emphasis on the Cal/OSHA standards that apply to their use. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES TRADES PERSONNEL Radiation Safety Annual Refresher

Attendees will be instructed on the requirements to properly purchase, store, use, and dispose of radioactive materials in accordance with the University's license. Information on laboratory compliance and instrument awareness will also be emphasized. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL AUTHORIZED USERS OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS Respiratory Protection Program Personnel who have been medically qualified to wear a respirator will be instructed on their proper use, maintenance, selection, and limitations as prescribed in the Cal/OSHA standards and manufacturer's guidelines. TARGET AUDIENCE: RESPIRATOR CERTIFIED PERSONNEL Safe Lifting - Back Safety With back injuries being a predominant result of poor lifting practices, attendees will be provided with the proper techniques, and available guides in preventing such an occurrence. Best management practices will be stressed in this session. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL FACILITIES TRADES, MAILROOM & PROPERTY/RECEIVING PERSONNEL Stormwater Plan Orientation This class is designed to heighten the campus community's awareness and understanding of the principles, practices and implementation of the University's Stormwater Management Plan. When that plan has been developed training will be coordinated with those directly impacted. This session is only conceptual in content until the University is required to have such a plan. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES SERVICES & OTHERS ENGAGED IN OPERATIONAL OUTDOOR ACTIVITY Tree Work, Maintenance & Removal Workers engaged in the landscaping activities related to tree work face distinct hazards and must take preventative measures to ensure the safety of themselves and pedestrians. Proper guidelines in accordance with Cal/OSHA standards will be stressed. Requests for this class session can be made to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: FACILITIES GROUNDS PERSONNEL Welding Safety The activity of welding presents a host of potential physical hazards from fire to exposure of fumes/vapors. This class will focus on the proper procedures, safe practices, and potential hazards related to all types of welding. Personnel must be certified welders before attending this class or performing any welding activity. Requests for this class session can be made to the RM/EHS Office at ext. 3-3549. TARGET AUDIENCE: ALL PERSONNEL PERFORMING WELDING IN THE COURSE OF THEIR JOB RESPONSIBILITY. THIS SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSES FACILITIES AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT PERSONNEL.
