Job Profile JOB TITLE Translations Editor: Spanish and (until 31 March 2017, 21 hours/week) GROUP TEAM LOCATION RESPONSIBLE TO Global Advocacy and Influencing Group Communications for Development Teddington Editorial Manager PART 1 JOB DESCRIPTION 1. PURPOSE OF THE TEAM The Communications for Development team is building a global community of 100,000 active members who are learning together, online and offline, to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to face the challenges of poverty and injustice in our world. 2. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To manage the translation of Tearfund publications and general translations requests for Spanish and, for a mostly Latin American and African readership. 3. GENERIC PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To take responsibility for a designated area of the team s overall task or specific projects. POSITION IN ORGANISATION Reports to the Editorial Manager Works closely with the other Translations Editor Provides advice to all Tearfund teams on issues related to translation into/from Spanish and Liaises with external designers to ensure a smooth production schedule Manages and develops a pool of freelance translators and proofreaders

Management of translation and production of international publications in Spanish and Oversee the quality of translation and proofreading work throughout the process Organise good quality translation, checking, proofreading of each language Liaise with designers and production team to ensure smooth production schedule Carry out final detailed checks, deal with queries and inaccuracies to ensure high quality translations in line with Tearfund s reputation, and sign-off before publications Attend relevant international publications, and TILZ meetings as required as a key stakeholder. 2. Assisting with queries on correspondence in Spanish and related to Tearfund s international publications Assisting with queries on correspondence in appropriate languages Liaising with colleagues in the Communications for development team for complex enquiries Liaising with translators when necessary. 3. Management of translation work requested by Tearfund teams Agree appropriate delivery targets Organise good quality translation, checking and proofreading of documents and correspondence Review and promote the internal translation policy. 4. Management of pool of translators and proofreaders Locate and assess competent translators and proofreaders for a translators pool Set and negotiate payment rates Keep accurate records of translation work for payment and monitoring purposes Manage the translators pool to ensure good quality translations and proofreading Give feedback to translators and proofreaders to improve the quality of work delivered. 5. Monitoring, and assurance of quality Communicate translation issues to the International Group, and ensure the policy on translation work is understood and adhered to Produce, maintain and disseminate foreign language lexicons and glossaries within Tearfund, among the translators and on the TILZ website. Provide advice to those wishing to translate Tearfund publications into languages outside Tearfund core languages.

TEARFUND INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS JOB TITLE: Translations Editor: Spanish and OFFICE HOURS: Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm with one hour for lunch. 21 hour working week Fixed Term to 31 March 2017 ANNUAL LEAVE - FULL YEAR: 25 days pro-rata + statutory bank hols + additional days at Christmas SICK LEAVE SCHEME: Based on length of service NON-CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEME: Tearfund will contribute 10% of your salary to your pension. All staff are contractually enrolled onto the Tearfund group pension scheme NEW STAFF SERVICE: 6 months probationary period with a 3 month review Grade: 4 SALARY: 31,965 per annum full time equivalent ( 19,179 per annum part time)
