CAF JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Impact and Advocacy Manager The CAF Global Alliance Grade or Grade Range: E Department: Philanthropy Division Main purpose of job: The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is a charity that works to promote effective philanthropy and social investment. CAF has offices in 9 countries globally. CAF works with over 5,000 companies worldwide, including 75% of the FTSE100, we manage and advise on 2.5 billion for charities and donors, and support charities and social enterprises in 130 countries. This is a new and exciting role that will support CAF to become a leader in global philanthropy and build a strong global alliance of sustainable and impactful partner organisations globally, delivering aligned, quality services to promote philanthropy and effective giving globally. This role will support CAF s global alliance by leading CAF s work on impact measurement across the alliance of partner organisations, ensuring the philanthropy CAF promotes, and its grant making programmes, maximise impact. The role will also work with CAF s policy and public affairs team in the UK to support CAF s partner organisations to influence policy on global philanthropy locally. Responsible to: The Head of the CAF Global Alliance Budgetary responsibilities: Not applicable Responsible for (staff/jobs): Not applicable; but requires matrix management of colleagues in CAF UK and Alliance partners for delivery of specific areas of work Key Job Responsibilities: Impact Measurement Develop an impact measurement framework for CAF s global alliance that measures the effectiveness of CAF s policy, philanthropy programmes and services and grant-making programmes. Work with other members of the global alliance in the UK and overseas to identify ways to increase impact, to share success and to promote CAF s work. Build the capacity of Directors and their staff in impact measurement and evaluation tools. Periodically, support the review of grant making and other programmes. Strategy Work with the Directors of CAF s global partners and CAF UK s policy and public affairs department to develop a policy influencing strategy for the global alliance that promotes and facilitates global philanthropy with a focus on campaigning for legislative change to promote and facilitate philanthropy in emerging markets. Contribute relevant expertise to the development and implementation of CAF s global alliance strategy, and the development of strategies and operational plans by CAF s partner organisations. 1
Policy influencing Working with the CAF UK Head of Policy and Campaigns to develop and lead research and policy influencing activities in support of Directors of CAF s alliance partners to promote philanthropy globally and within countries where CAF has offices, particularly emerging economies. Initiate, develop and manage partnerships to achieve policy change. Alliance-wide strategic initiatives Play a leading role in developing and delivering specific strategic projects and initiatives that engage partners across the alliance. AA good level of experience working at a manager level in an international context, providing support to international partner organisations. Significant understanding of and experience of influencing policy agendas, ideally in an international setting and preferably in emerging economies. Strong understanding of impact measurement tools and how to use these in a resource and capacity poor international setting. Experience of working within a global alliance, or an alliance of independent partners. Strong understanding of the values, management and governance principles underpinning successful alliances Proven experience of successfully supporting and influencing peers, outside of a line management relationship. A confident working style, with the gravitas to work at CEO and board level. Experience of working in cross-cultural and resource poor environments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the confidence and ability to represent CAF externally at global events. Ability to travel extensively and comfortable staying in budget hotels.
