Real-Time Asset Tracking. Reinvented for Transit & Rail. ENHANCED TRANSIT LOCATION SYSTEM (ETLS) FOR TRANSIT AUTHORITIES Piper s Enhanced Transit Location System powers a new rail and vehicle tracking solution that can finally meet the real-time location awareness requirements of sophisticated transportation authorities and their challenging environments. Our suite of proprietary proximity technology offers better performance than other RTLS like WiFi and RFID by providing greater granularity and accuracy to within 10cm, reduced signal latency, added security, and minimal multipath interference. This makes our ETLS solution ideal for performing in restrictive locations and congested RF environments like underground subway tunnels.

ADAPTABLE PROXIMITY PLATFORM FOR ANY LOCATION AWARENESS NEEDS Use Piper s ETLS (Enhanced Transit Location System) solution to track the location and movement of trains, vehicles, equipment, people and other objects that must be identified in real-time for various location awareness needs. Transportation authorities and airports increasingly need these solutions to be customized so that they can work consistently in challenging environments and deliver highly granular data. Piper s proximity solutions are comprised of standard or customized physical devices, a cloud-based platform and an optional online dashboard. We also have a team of engineers and developers available for further customizations, application development and integrations. Piper Tags and Beacons are available in various form factors and battery capacities based on size and environmental requirements. They are easily attached to any asset that must be tracked or monitored and can be customized to meet your needs. Piper Anchors and Gateways sense the movements and locations of the tags. They are installed at fixed locations on walls or ceilings and can be powered via PoE or USB. Piper Cloud collects the data from the anchors via ethernet, Wi-Fi or LTE. It can then generate real-time reports, dots-on-a-map, heat maps to show dwell time, and other location information, all of which can be viewed in the Piper Online Dashboard or integrated with third party applications using Piper s APIs and SDKs. REAL-TIME TRAIN TRACKING Calculate precise train location data to manage fleets, increase throughput and allow more trains to travel together more closely while maintaining safety. Data can be transmitted in real-tme to wayside communication networks with low latency using self powered receivers. The information can also be used to predict accurate arrival/departure times and power customer-facing countdown clocks.

COUNTDOWN CLOCK SYSTEMS Secure, durable, FCC/UL compliant hardware based on Ultra Wideband (UWB) or Bluetooth technology is used to calculate and predict accurate arrival/departure times and power customer facing countdown clocks. Information can also be used in public mobile apps for up-to-date notifications. Piper provides the complete solution, including: provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, and support. WORKER SAFETY Monitor and locate workers as they go about their routines on tracks and platforms. Low cost, rechargeable and unencumbering tags worn by workers position their movement within 10cm radius. They are equipped with super bright LEDs and piezo alarms for alerting. The RTLS web-based UI is used to pinpoint location of workers. There are numerous safety benefits to this system., including: Simultaneously alert train operators to presence of workers on active tracks, & notify workers of approaching trains. The ability to create geofenced zones that can alert workers to hazards when entered. Enabling supervisors to identify location of workers during shifts.

CASE STUDY: Metropolitan Transportation Authority, NYC Subway System Overview: Piper is currently engaged in an ongoing project to assist Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and the New York City Subway System with collecting real-time subway train location data. Using customized Bluetooth Beacons and UWB Tags installed on trains in combination with BLE and UWB sensors deployed in underground stations and tracks, Piper aggregates a stream of real-time location data. By integrating the data with MTA s itrack system, Piper s beacons help locate trains and power countdown clocks with reliable arrival information for riders. Solutions that Piper delivered: Piper s highly responsive team and quick POC turn around resulted in a low cost IoT solution. A custom, high performance and secure BLE signal was developed specifically for the system. Piper s APIs and SDKs were integrated and used to connect applications. Data is mapped according to MTA Applications Team and departmental requirements. Custom PoE form factors were developed for high performance beacons/tags & BLE sensors/uwb Anchors. Piper worked closely with partners to ensure interoperability. These actions are the latest steps toward rebuilding and transforming the MTA into a unified, state-of-the-art transportation network that will meet the needs of current and future generations of New Yorkers. CASE STUDY: Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, Virginia Monterey Regional Airport, California Overview: Piper Networks worked together with partner, Gatekeeper Systems, to help Roanoke and Monterey airports track the locations of taxis & shuttles and increase non-aeronautical revenue with livery metering. We provide a service to airports by effectively counting the visits of vehicles and other transportation companies to see how they are using the space. Then the airport can use the data to manage the revenue and ensure they are properly compensated. Beacons are issued and placed in the vehicles while fixed sensors are installed to pick up the signals from those beacons to track the vehicle. Piper also provides the cloud-based platform that collects data in real time and runs it through a proprietary algorithm to translate it into counts. Piper provided proof of concept services, set up the beacons and tested the sensors installed on the airport grounds, and expanded it into fuller deployment after PoC was completed. The system is passive, requires very little maintenance and is incredibly easy to scale.
