1. Environmental & Water Management The Environmental and Water Management business supports our clients with any development or activity that has a potential impact on or benefit to the environment; including ports and harbours, power stations, coastal and river defences, dams & hydraulic structures and water resources. We work for water companies, regulators, private industry, research bodies and a range of international funding institutions to provide a wide range of services including: Business and asset planning for water & waste companies and the Environment Agency; Feasibility studies for water resource projects, dams and river/coastal defences; Environmental impact assessments and environmental statements in support of project development (including hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, geomorphology and ecology); Business cases for dams, river defences, ports and the like; Capital programme management Environmental and licence compliance Technical and environmental due diligence for transactions in the water, waste, power and utilities sectors; Climate impacts and climate change assessments; Floods forecasting and warning; Water resource master plans; Dams safety work; and Land management. Our experts command an excellent industry reputation in delivering tailor-made solutions for clients across the UK and internationally. Our focus is on developing environmental, technological, operational and commercial strategies with our clients; assessing the impact of human activity on the environment; and helping our clients optimise the management of their assets to minimise their impact on the environment. Following significant success in securing forward work programmes our Strategy Assessment & Management (SAM) team has graduate / post-graduate level vacancies in our Bristol, Epsom, Oxford, Peterborough and Warrington offices. The SAM team operate at the interface between human activity and the water environment. They are leaders in providing integrated and innovative, technical and management solutions for our greatest water and environment challenges. Candidates should hold or be expected to achieve a degree classification of 2.1 or above (or equivalent) in the Environmental or Natural Sciences, Mathematics or Civil Engineering and preferably have a relevant post-graduate qualification. You must be numerate, have an eye for detail and enjoy solving challenging environmental problems. The Rivers and Coastal team have vacancies in Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, Peterborough, Swansea and Warrington. We are ideally looking for Graduates who have a Masters level degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Geography or a related discipline, or Graduates who have gone on to achieve an MSc in a Water/Environment related subject. The Dams team have vacancies in Epsom and are looking for graduates who have a degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline. To be considered for the Dams team applicants should be able to demonstrate a specific interest in dams and hydraulics/hydrology.
2. Ground Engineering is one of the most exciting and demanding sectors in Civil and Environmental Engineering. It encompasses disciplines such as, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering and tunnel engineering. The services of qualified professionals in these disciplines are in great demand in the design and construction of new and innovative infrastructure (such as mass transit systems, tunnelling and power supply), geohazards, underground storage and carbon capture and offshore geotechnics. There is also an increasing requirement for such areas of expertise as the world responds to a changing future with its emphasis on the energy sector, low carbon, sustainability and greater management of resources. The Atkins Ground Engineering Academy offers a structured graduate training programme and career path for Graduates wishing to pursue a career in ground engineering. We currently have Graduate opportunities in our Engineering Geology, Geotechnical and Tunnelling Group. The Ground Engineering Team are looking to recruit graduates from Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering or related degree disciplines. 3. Land & Development The Land & Development division provides a range of multidisciplinary skills for land development projects in the UK and overseas. We offer engineering and environmental solutions across a whole host of market sectors including; urban development and regeneration, transmission and distribution; oil, gas and nuclear industries; heavy industries including cement, steel and mining; defence and aerospace; water and waste management, highways and rail infrastructure. Land & Development comprises three business units: Land project management, infrastructure and drainage engineering, land quality and hydrogeology Waste strategy and engineering including Energy from Waste Environmental Management for industry, energy, utilities and including specialist teams in air quality and acoustics. We deal with land management, land development and land-use change. We work on projects through the whole of the land asset cycle from the acquisition stage, redevelopment of the site, ongoing infrastructure, management through to final land disposal and handling of legacy issues. In leading on land development projects, we have created an international capability to handle liability and compliance issues for global corporate and financial institutions, much of which is centred on land as an asset. The Land & Development team are recruiting Graduates for Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London and Warrington offices. The Epsom office has opportunities for graduates to join the Land, Waste and Environmental Management teams who want to specialise in Hydrogeology, Land Quality, Waste, Air Quality Noise/Acoustics. These positions will ideally suit graduates who come from an Environmental Science, Hydrogeology, Geology, Acoustics, Chemistry, Physics or related scientific degree discipline. 4. Water Operations The Water Operations business area works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes. Our consultancy skills span the water cycle and management of the whole asset life cycle. Our staff are mainly engineers and scientists with capability in water treatment, service reservoirs distribution networks, pumping stations, pipelines, sewage and sludge treatment, sewerage networks, and outfalls. The group can take a project from its earliest inception and master planning through to full construction and commissioning supervision. Our core business in the UK is heavily regulated and we work closely with our clients to help meet the demands placed on them to make it an efficient and effective industry, providing solutions steeped in value, technical excellence and class-leading health, safety and environmental leadership.
