Managing cockroaches successfully requires a collaborative effort between customers and pest management professionals. However, even with good collaboration, management failure can still occur. In this session, we will review reasons why failure happens. This include discussion on selection of pesticide formulations and their application, significance of sanitation and structural integrity, and other human or process factors that contribute to challenges in managing cockroaches. Tackling Termites: Inspection & Management Tips Susan Jones, Ph.D., The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH It s important to be familiar with termite biology and habits due to their relevance for inspection and control strategies. Research results are provided regarding field efficacy of termite baits and soil termiticides against the eastern subterranean termite, Reticulitermes flavipes. A. 5 The North Carolina Pest Management Association(NCPMA) has developed a state-of-the-art training program created to specifically train wood-destroying insect inspection professionals in North Carolina. The Wood-Destroying Insect Report (WDIR) Accreditation Program prepares each trainee to properly identify past or current infestations of wood-destroying insects. The WDIR re-accreditation course is refresher training which all attendees will then be eligible to renew and purchase new inspector stamps. New Approaches to Managing Key Insect Pests of Warm Season Turfgrass Adam Dale, Ph.D., University of Florida, Gainesville, FL As industry demands and societal pressures change, the need for novel pest management tactics is increasing. In this presentation we will discuss the latest research and pest management tools available for managing insect pests of warm season turfgrasses. Pests discussed include bermudagrass mite, southern chinch bug, and sod webworms. We will also discuss new cultural management strategies that may be implemented to reduce pest control needs in residential lawns.
