1 First Global Meeting of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP) May 2015 New York, UN Headquarters, USA Provisional Agenda OBJECTIVES In a world in which human population is projected to be 9.5 billion by 2050, and in which about 1.2 billion people currently live in extreme poverty and deprivation, promoting sustainable consumption and production (SCP) has become vital. At the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in 2012, Heads of States adopted the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP), reaffirming that SCP is one of the overarching objectives of, and essential requirements for, sustainable development. The 10YFP is a global framework for action to enhance international cooperation and advance the implementation of SCP in all countries and regions. It generates collective impact through multistakeholder programmes and partnerships, which develop and scale up SCP policies and initiatives at all levels, fostering knowledge and experience sharing, and facilitating access to technical and financial resources for developing countries. Three years after the adoption of the 10YFP at Rio, the objectives of the First Global Meeting of the 10YFP are twofold: 1. Global Stakeholder Meeting of the 10YFP, 14 th May 2015 Illustrate and explore the universal nature and added value of shifting towards SCP for the achievement of sustainable development; Promote the 10YFP as an implementation mechanism of the SDGs and Post-2015 Development Agenda, with a focus on programmes, their delivery at regional and national levels, and measurement of capacity built through them; Explore the capacity of the 10YFP and its programmes to support the SDGs and the shift to SCP patterns. 2. Implementing and Inter-linking 10YFP Programmes, 15 th May 2015 Operationalize the collective impact approach and coordinate for a coherent delivery and accelerated implementation of the 10YFP programmes; Increase the 10YFP programmes capacity to create synergies with current regional and national strategies and initiatives; Identify joint work areas and potentially transformative, large-scale projects and initiatives spanning more than one 10YFP programme.
