1 Dr. YSRHU e-newsletter Fortnightly e-newsletter of Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University Volume-I, Issue 2nd Dr.YSRHU e-newsletter 1st - 15th June, 2015 Fortnight Focus Events Education Research Extension General Dear Colleagues, With the timely onset of monsoons, many parts of Andhra Pradesh have received reasonably good rainfall during this fortnight. This will hasten the agricultural/horticultural operations all over the state which needs proper technical inputs from the University to the farming community. Horticulture has emerged as a sunrise sector by offering a wide range of crop diversification options to farmers which has the potential to achieve double digit growth as envisaged in A.P. Primary Sector Mission. In order to bridge the gap between actual and potential yields, transfer of technology plays major role in improved management practices viz., quality seed and planting material, use of biofertilizers and bioagents, microirrigation, fertigation, mulching, trellising and IPM which not only decreases cost of cultivation but also reduces the residue problem. Hence, it is requested to respond quickly and contribute to the growth of horticulture. Wish you all the best. Dr. B.M.C. Reddy Vice-Chancellor 1
