Foliar nutrition adds up to extra bag of potatoes per row Mr. James Pearson, of S. Pearson & Son, in Spalding used NHDelta on two potato fields, one of Pipper and the other one of Picasso. What he noted was an extra bag on each row, bringing an additional 450 per hectare. For a 30/ha investment we got a great return. Where we applied the NHDelta we got an extra 2,25 tonnes to the hectare he says.
Staggered by response After one of the worst growing seasons on records, potato growers who trialled a new foliar feed in 2012 reported yields of up to 50 tonnes/ha. NHDelta is a stabilised form of NH2 nitrogen which improves nutrient uptake and encourage the development of roots and foliage. Growers that took part in field trials saw significant improvements while some believed the product also produced a benefit on quality. Will Forington of East Stockwith, in Linconshire who washes and pack potatoes for the wholesale market comments: I was simply staggered by the response, especially as most of our crops where planted quite late While average UK yield were tonnes/ha, Will s ones has got over 50 tonnes, Achieving even 59 in some of them. With prices at 320/tonne, they were over 3200/ha better off, with a 60 investment.
Review Site Name: Lamyman Farms Worlaby Lincolnshire (UK) Dose rate: 2 and 3 litres of NHCa Delta applied with every blight spay throughout the growing season. The crop also received 2 litres per ha every two weeks of 1-4-ALL. This picture was taken in the middle of July 2012, in a year with very high blight pressure. King Edwards Yield digs were done on the 22nd August showing a yield of 15 tonnes per acre and potential of a further 5 tonnes. Skin finish is very good and number and size of tubers are high and even, a really lovely sample given the difficulties faced by most growers along 2012
Review Site Name: Lamyman Farms Worlaby Lincolnshire (UK) Dose rate: 2 and 3 litres of NHCa Delta applied with every blight spay throughout the growing season. The crop also received 2 litres per ha every two weeks of 1-4-AL. King Edwards This pictures shows a sample of untreated potatoes. Whilst the sample has good colour the uniformity is poor and the size of tuber is variable, from very small to large. The treated crop has produced in the order of tonnes/ac (37t/ha) of first class King Edward potatoes. Colour and skin finish is excellent and size and uniformity is exceptional. These have now been delivered via Countrywide Produce (Lincs) to premier pre-packers and prepared for high end supermarkets, who have remarked that these potatoes are some of the very best, most even they have seen for many years.
Review Site Name: R Harness & sons Ltd Tattershall Lincs. Lady Rosetta (UK) In early August 2012 this crop looked very poor, the canopy was going off and the yield digs gave a 9 tonnes/ac prospect and every chance no more growth would come. The grower applied from this point just 2 ltrs per ha of NHCa Delta nitrogen and by the end of August the canopy had improved significantly and the yield digs moved to 15.2 tonnes /ac. Lady Rosetta After just 4 weeks of applying 2 ltrs/ha with every blight spray of NH Delta nitrogen the canopy looked healthy and growing.
Lady Rosetta Uniformed and even tubers, now the crop is bulking and gone from looking like a 0 t/ac crop to a 15t/ac plus crop. A different view of the very much improved picture across this Rosetta crop. The calcium in the Delta help to provide additional health benefits in high blight burden and on these very hungry sandy soils.
Review Site Name: JW Grant Boston (UK) NH Delta nitrogen treated Piper potatoes grown on very good soil at Old Leake Nr Bost Lincolnshire. The pictures were taken on 28th August 2012 Treated Piper. We took a yield dig of 3 metre from a full run of crop, no misses in the run and the treated sample seen here produced a yield of 17.7 tonnes/ac. Piper These NH Delta treated Piper are growing well and will continue to bulk and will continue to recieve 2 litres per ha as a weekly feed. Good uniformity good skin finish
Review Site Name: JEG Farms Ltd Bourne South Lincolnshire (UK) These potatoes are grown on some black fen soil, good soil for the job. The farmer has applied NHCa Delta at a rate of 2 Lts per ha with every blight spay and you can see from the sample that whilst untreated is a very fine sample the treated are a more even size and larger. Markies The untreated sample of Markies are very good and number of tubers is impressive, however there is a variety of sizes an uniformaty is less good than the treated sample pictured beside. The treated Markies have recieved 2 ltrs per ha with every blight spray and have now more uniformed size and shape
Review Site Name: RM Cottingham Ltd Binbrook Lincolnshire (UK) We started applying low rate NHCa Delta nitrogen on 23rd July 2012, the rate was just 2Ltr/ha with every blight spray. The first yield dig and photographs were taken on 28th August The crop at the top of the picture, left of centre has received a standard program throughout the year. The rows to the right have had Delta applied but only in the last month.you can clearly see that above the line in the middle the crop is paler and beginning to give up. The crop below the centre line is greener and is hanging on and will continue to bulk up the tubers. Harmony The right hand side has had a normal crop husbandry and the crop on the left of the centre line has received NHCa Delta at a rate of 2 Ltrs per ha applied with every blight spay.
Review Site Name: RM Cottingham Ltd Binbrook Lincolnshire (UK) We started applying low rate NHCa Delta nitrogen on 23rd July 2012, the rate was just 2Ltr/ha with every blight spray. The first yield dig and photographs were taken on 28th August Harmony The NH Delta treated yield dig showed a yield of 12 tonnes per acre (28.8 t/ha) and good uniformity and good size. The untreated part of the field produced a yield dig of 10.5 tonnes per acre (25.3 t/ha) and the size was smaller and less uniform. The crop still had potential to improve over the next two weeks In a year when baking potatoes will attract very good premiums the uniformity and size becomes more critical.

Review Site Name: Scrivelsby Horncastle, Lincolnshire (UK) Grown by: Albert Barlett s Full program with NH Delta and 1-4-All. Better skin finish and more uniformity Vivaldi Summary. There were 13 rows of untreated Vivaldi potatoes grown in this field. The land is grade 2 light sandy loam. We are waitng for the final yield of the harvested crop but the early estmate is that the field has produced between 29.5 to 31+ tonnes/ ac (73-77tonnes/ha) and most of the field, except the 13 rows of untreated have received NHCaDelta and 1-4- ALL. The exceptonal yield and quality can be a=ributed to the use of Delta and 1-4- ALL. The typical quality premium for the Delta and 1-4- ALL treated crop is c. 40/tonne. This equates to a premium of 2,800/hectare. In additon to the loss of this premium in the untreated crop there will be additonal handling charges associated with the grading and packing of those untreated potatoes. Pic 4. 18 Review Site Name: Forrington Reds, East Stockwith, Lincolnshire (UK) Dose rate: NHCa Delta at 2 Lt/ha The yield was extremely wet and poor harvest year Blight pressure was very high and yields were poor. Mr Forringtons Shannon produced 26T/ac (64.2T/ ha) of baker size and quality. Baking potatoes were in short supply in this year and Mr Forrington believed he saw a yield increase of 3 to 4Tonnes per acre (7+Tonnes/ha). Shannon
Review Site Name: S Pearson & Son, Donington, Spalding Lincolnshire (UK) Mr Pearson applied NHCa Delta and left a spray boom untreated, the pictures was taken whilst the picture is not the clearest the field inspection did identify a very clear difference between that treated and that untreated. The treated crops are growing for longer and surviving the variable weather which will help bulk the crop, which for this very difficult 2012 year is most important. Picasso This picture was taken circa 20th August The right hand of the picture shows one half of a spray boom untreated with NHCa Delta. The left hand spray boom width is treated with NHCa Delta at a rate of between 4 and 5 litres per ha with every blight spray. After experiencing such a difficult year and seeing the crop suffer so badly it was decided to treat the growing crop with a 4ltr/ha applications of Delta nitrogen fertilizer. We only managed to get two applications of 4 litres applied. The crop was harvested on 15th October and the grower has lifted one tonne more per acre (plus 2.4t/ha) from the NH Delta treated crop which is equivalent to a premium of 260 per acre for a Delta spend of 12/acre.
Review Site Name: Tumby Horncastle Lincolnshire (UK) At Tumby near Horncastle in Lincolnshire we had two neighbouring crops of potatoes. To the treated crop a full NH Delta program was applied at a rate of 2 Litres per hectare, applied with every blight spray. We also applied 2 litres per ha of 1-4-All which is our trace element and growth enhancer mix. The nearby untreated crop is typical of potatoes in a year with very high rainfall and high blight pressure. We have other growers who have applied a Delta program of between 2 and 5Ltrs per ha per blight spay through the growing season and these crops look similar to those treated crops at Tumby. Melody 2012 Melody Potatoes Pictures taken July 19th Weather conditions prolonged wet weather. Main crop Melody potatoes grown on sand land following an NHCaDelta program of 2 litres per ha applied with every blight spray at 5 day intervals. This crop has also received a 2L/ha application of our 1-4-All trace element and growth enhancer mix. In a year with very high blight pressure these potatoes have suffered with very little blight. The NH Delta treated crop achieveded a good canopy and good healthy growth providing good tuber numbers of even size.
Review Site Name: Tumby Horncastle Lincolnshire (UK) At Tumby near Horncastle in Lincolnshire we had two neighbouring crops of potatoes. To the treated crop a complete NH Delta program was applied at a rate of 2 Litres per hectare, applied with every blight spray. We also applied 2 litres per ha of 14All which is our trace element and growth enhancer mix. The nearby untreated crop is typical of potatoes in a year with very high rainfall and high blight pressure. Melody 2012 We have other growers who have applied a NH Delta program of between 2 and 5Ltrs per ha per blight spay through the growing season and these crops look similar to those treated crops at Tumby. 15th August Yield dig of the Melody crop at Tumby shows a potential of 20 tonnes/acres of 45mm up and 2 tonne/ac of 45mm down, Pre pack quality, with good crop canopy still remains which would indicate there is another month of growth.
We have other growers who have applied a NH Delta program of between 2 and 5Ltrs per ha per blight spay through the growing season and these crops look similar to those treated crops at Tumby. The NH Delta treated Melody harvested here at Tumby are large and uniformed in size and with great skin finish. These NH Delta treated potatoes yielded 54t/ha and fetched a 40/tonne quality premium. The untreated crop yielded between 17.25t/ha and 22t/ha. The NH Delta treated crop received 125kg of nitrogen during the growing season. This was a reduction of over 40% in allowable N to grow a crop that was over 2.5 times the size of the untreated crop.
Review Site Name: Scawby (UK) 2 fields fields of Harmony Potatoes sampled on similar land type, one treated to standard treatment of NHCa Delta and 1-4-ALL and the other has received his standard agronomy, both irrigated. Melody 2013 The same number of plants were taken. It was obvious that the yield of the treated was much better than those untreated. More significantly the skin finish, size and uniformity of those treated with Delta and 1-4-ALL were much better than those not treated.

Samples taken 3 rd October 2013 (UK) Variety: Marris Piper, 3 meter yield dig Yield : 19.5 tonnes/ha NHCaDelta Treated 16.5 tonnes/ha Untreated Maris piper Untreated Treated The treated crops received 2 Litres NHCaDelta per hectare with every blight spray, 14L in total over the growing season. The NHCaDelta treated crop has shown a 3 tonne/ha increase in yield and a better skin finish than those that had not received the NHDelta. The untreated tubers have poor skin brightness and evidence of black dot and are a secondary packer sample. The NHCaDelta treated tubers are a major multiple packer sample with better skin finish and in today s market would receive a 20/tonne premium over the untreated.
Review Site Name: Kinangop, (Kenya) Lachlan Viazi Power. This programme works especially in a time of drought. 14 to 16 tubers per plant can be counted with the Viazi Power programme versus 7 tubers per plant under standard programme. The biggest merit seen is the lack of stress in the treated plants, having had no rain for over 5 weeks and no irrigation applied. The crop is then sprayed pre flower with NHCa Delta at 2 L/Ha (3 applications). For the remainder of the season, during the bulking stage of the crop, NHK Delta will be applied on a weekly basis. Potato plants treated with NH Delta on Viazi Power program. Excellent
