4 IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store Sizing Guidelines 4 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose This guideline has been prepared exclusively for <customer_name> and is based on the planned application requirements of the IBM Cognos ReportNet application. A number of factors can greatly impact the accuracy of this prediction including the divergence between planned and actual application requirements. Thus, estimates are not a guarantee that similar results will be attained in your environment. 1.2 Exclusions and Exceptions All estimates are based on the assumptions identified in this document. Assumptions are a result of a sample scenario. This information and methodology identified for sizing the IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store can be used by <customer_name> to modify the guideline offered in this document. As well, the information provided through the IBM Cognos BI Capacity Planning Questionnaire can be helpful.

6 IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store Sizing Guidelines 6 3 Empty Content Store The size of an empty IBM Cognos Content Store hosted in a MS SQL Server database is approximately 2 to 3 Mb. 4 Saved Content - Reports 7 page PDF: 340 Kb 95 page PDF: 440 Kb 5 Saved Content Custom Views 100 rows: 250 Kb 950 rows: 350 Kb 6 Effect of Concurrent Users The number of concurrent users will impact the size of the IBM Cognos Content Store because temp disk space is allocated to serve report execution requests (even if not saved). Out of 50 concurrent users expected at <CUSTOMER_NAME>, IBM Cognos is estimating that 25% of these users will be executing reports while the remaining 75% will be viewing saved outputs. Therefore, approximately 12.5 users will be executing reports (50 concurrent users * 0.25 executing reports = 12.5 concurrent users executing reports). This will result in temp space required for allocation in the database.

8 IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store Sizing Guidelines 8 8 Notes IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store sizing is a function of data space, system space (including database transaction logs) and temporary space considerations. The estimates in this guideline are only applicable to the capacity required to host the IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store. Other disk space requirements such as LDAP, Cognos report servers, etc, have not been considered. Estimates are based on IBM Cognos ReportNet Content Store testing hosted in a MS SQL Server database. Other database types (i.e. DB2 and Oracle) used for the IBM Cognos Content Store may vary the accuracy of this guideline. The total number of saved reports is a major factor in terms of Content Store sizing. The above guideline is strongly influenced by the total amount of saved reports as per the assumed application requirements at <customer_name>. Differences between planned and actual application requirements may greatly impact the accuracy of this guideline. It is important to consider the backup strategy employed by <customer_name> management policies. This guideline has not considered backup storage requirements or the frequency of those requirements. It is assumed that Content Store backups will be hosted on non- IBM Cognos designated servers. The size of saved content has been estimated based on the number of report pages. Factors that may influence the average size of a report (in Kb) include number of pages, formatting and text selection, as well as the inclusion of images. Estimates for saved content are based on the PDF output format. Content that is saved in another format such as HTML or CSV may influence the average size of a report (in Troubleshooting (replace this heading)
