11 Executive Summary Current Environment Overview The Rock River Water Reclamation District s (RRWRD) computer environment currently consists of several different environments, both x86 and IBM mainframe centric. Under x86 we utilitize Windows, Novell, and several Linux distributions. The majority of RRWRD x86 severs are implemented in a 3 node VMWare cluster. Applications in this environment include, but are not limited to general accounting, payroll, accounts payable and purchasing (Fundware), Sewer and Inventory Asset Management (Infor) and ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The Infor and GIS applications use Oracle running under VMWare and Linux. The IBM z114 currently runs both IBM zvm and IBM zvse operating systems. The z114 supports are Utility Billing and Collection, Permitting, Waste Surveillance and EPA reporting under an application umbrella called STREAMS. STREAMS is written in Software AG's Natural programming language and utilizes Softtware AG's Adabas database product. STREAMS runs under the IBM zvse operating system. Two Integrated Facility for Linux cards have been installed and activated on the IBM z114. It is the District's intention that it's Oracle and some other Linux work loads and be moved to the z114 utilizing the IFLs running SUSE Linux. The District's current disk environment consists of 4 SANS, plus some disk integrated with devices. These include 3 EqualLogic arrays (2 SATA, 1 SAS) and 1 IBM array running mostly as ECKD disks. Proposed Environment Overview RRWRD's goal is to replace all 4 of it's existing SANS with a single Enterprise Disk Storage System. This system would support both our x86 environments and our IBM z114 mainframe environment. The IBM z114 would be changed to operate with SCSI storage and not as ECKD storage. This disk storage system would be scalable with a common user interface for management of the device. Internal replication, flash copies or similar technology would be supported. If selected, the device needs to support external replication, although cost and other factors may determine whether this Page 10

12 is part of the initial implementation or installed at a later time. The device must be highly redundant and/or resiliant. Redundant devices, controllers, power supplies, etc. all must be included in the system. The device must support both Fiber Channel and iscsi connections. The successful vendor will also provide the District with appropriate training and conversion services, although after initial configuration, much of the z114 conversion may be done by contractors selected and paid by the District. The District is in the processes of installing and moving to a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and will require a very high speed, possibly solid state, storage set to prevent slow response at boot time. 17 Technical Requirements The following technical requirements may be considered as minimum needs, as long as clearly defined you may propose alternatives. 1. Accepted system manufacturers, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems and IBM. 2. Do you have customers operating the proposed device with servers operating Novell Netware? 3. Do you have customers operating various x86 Linux environments with the proposed device? 4. Do you have customers operating the proposed device with Windows Servers and other Windows environments? Please identify proposed delivered disk, device max. 8. The District estimates that its storage requirenents are tiered between very high speed, high speed, middle speed. We currently expect the very high speed to be SSD, and for Virtual Desktops we see an initial need of 2TB. In the high speed we see 50TB, and 32TB in the middle speed range. 19 9. Will the proposed system support IBM ZEnterprise access as SCSI devices attached via Ficonx (as Fiber Channel) or mainframe Fiber Channel cards? 10.
