1 TCS ENGINEERING SERVICE Weld County Rd 1 Berthoud, Colorado Phone: Fax: TO: Bill Novell / Weld County Health Dept. August 1, 2018 FROM: Tom Strizki, TCS Engineering Service Inc. SUBJECT: Design of OWTS system for a proposed 3 bedroom house and storage facility office at County Road 1, Longmont, Colorado To whom it may concern, This letter is regarding an OWTS design that is a new installation for an existing 3 bedroom home and new office space for a new storage facility at County Road 1, Longmont, Colorado. A site inspection was performed on July 29 th 2018 of which the results are attached. Weather conditions were dry. One-8 foot X 4 foot test hole was dug in the proposed area for a new absorption field. The site on the East side of the property was chosen since it was the only area available suitable for the OWTS requirements. Site Conditions: The test site that was chosen is located on a relatively flat elevation of the property which lies below grade from the house site. Slope is estimated to be less than 1 % grade in the area of the proposed absorption field. Soil conditions in the test pit consisted of sandy / sandy loam clay below 1 O" of topsoil with consistent Sandy Clay to the bottom of pit. Due to the moderate to high clay concentration, soil was determined to be a type 4A soil with a percolation rate between minutes per inch. No ground water was encountered in the test pit and no signs of a high water table were observed., The OWTS design for this residence is to be for a treatment level of TL 1 and will be designed as an injected, Unlined Sand Filter bed design in accordance with the new Weld County Chapter 30 OWTS regulations effective OWTS System Design: The existing house construction is a 3 bedroom residence. The old system for this house which currently lies on the East side of the property will be abandoned and replaced with this new system. In addition to the house, an new office building for storage facility will be constructed with one bathroom and 2 remote toilets will also be added to the system. The total estimated water usage is shown below: 3 Bedroom House with estimated 6 person capacity : 75 GPO X 6= 450 GPO Office Bathroom 2 Remote toilets with hand wash sink 75 GPD X 1= 75 GPD 30 GPO X 2= 70 GPO Total estimated GPD= 595GPD Estimated size of Bed filter for soil type and estimated water usage is as follows: 595 gallons/day /.15 gallons/day/ square foot (L TAR)= sq ft.
2 Because we are using a pressure dosed system, the sizing factor is 1 and does not change the area of the absorption field, however, because chambers are also being used in this design, an additional reduction factor of.7 can be applied, obtaining a design number of 2,780 square foot of bed filter needed for the design of the field. A size of 30 feet wide by 100 feet long will be used in this design. Using this design criteria, the absorption design will use 1-1/2" SCH 40 PVC pipe inside of infiltrator chambers to disperse the effluent. For the 3 bedroom house with one washer and one garbage disposal, the office bathroom, and the 2 remote toilets, I am specifying a 3 chamber concrete tank with a capacity of 1,000 gallons in the 1 st chamber, 500 gallons in the second chamber, and 500 gallons for the lift station chamber, for a total of 2000 gallons. The house will be piped to the septic tank using a minimum 4" diameter PVC pipe at a slope between 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot if gravity fed. It is recommended that the standard "Quick 4 infiltrators" chambers be used to house the 1-1/2" pressure distribution pipe. For this application a total of 120 infiltrators are required. It is recommended that 5 distribution rows be used in the absorption field. Each distribution row will be 96 feet long and placed on 6 foot centers, with the edge distribution pipes 3 feet from the edge of the bed (see attached drawing). Each trench is to 6 feet apart from wall to wall. Total dimensions of the absorption/i leach field will be approximately 30 feet wide X 100 feet long. Bed should be dug at a depth of 4' -6" inches, with the bottom of the bed level. 3 feet of filtered sand is to be placed in the bottom of the bed and then the pressure pipe and infiltrator chamber placed on top. Surrounding soil is suitable for backfill and no special fill in required. No rocks larger than 1" in diameter should be used for the backfill of the field, although no rock was encountered during the site inspection. This should allow approximately 6" of top cover above the pipe chambers. System is designed assuming 3 doses per day. With this design, the dosing pump size must be between a minimum 1/2 to HP pump capable of 30 to 40 GPM. The hole size in the PVC pipe in the chambers should be 1/4 inch spaced on 5 ft. centers drilled at the 6 o'clock position (downward). An effluent filter is recommended to help prevent clogging of the lateral holes. Follow all installation instructions for bed preparation to install the infiltrator chambers properly (see attached reference material). Also, follow Weld County and regulation 43 guidelines for installation of a septic system regarding slope and grade of system and ground cover over leach field. Absorption field should be placed a minimum of 50 feet away from any domestic water source piped to the property. If there are any questions, please contact my office at the above number. Sincerely, TomStrizki Colorado Registered Professional Engineer#

INFILTRATOR' water technologies Quick4 Plus Standard and Quick4 Plus High Capacity Installation Instructions Quick4 Plus Standard and Quick4 Plus High Capacity chambers may only be installed according to State and/or local regulations. If unsure of the installation requirements for a particular site, contact the local health department. Like conventional systems, the soil and site conditions must be approved prior to installation. Conduct a thorough site evaluation to determine the proper sizing and siting of the system before installation. Quick4 Plus Standard 12 _I Quick4 Plus High Capacity EXCAVATING AND PREPARING THE SITE NOTE: As is the case with conventional systems, do not install the systems in wet conditions or in overly moist soils, as this causes machinery to smear the soil. 1. Stake out location of trenches and lines. Set elevations of the tank, pipe, and trench bottom. 2. Install sedimentation and erosion control measures. Temporary drainage swales/ berms may be installed to protect the site during rainfall events. 3. Excavate and level 3-foot-wide trenches with proper center-to-center separation. Verify trenches are level or have prescribed slope. NOTE: Over excavate the trench width in areas where you are planning to contour. 4. Rake bottom and sides if smearing has occurred while excavating. Remove any large stones and other debris. Do not use the bucket teeth to rake the trench bottom. 5. Verify that each trench is level using a level, transit, or laser. PREPARING THE QUICK4 PLUS ALL-IN-ONE 12 ENDCAPS NOTE: The Quick4 Plus All-in-One 12 Endcap is compatible with the Quick4 Plus Standard and Quick4 Plus High Capacity chambers, and can be used on either end of the trench, depending upon the installer's preference and configuration requirements. 1. With a hole saw drill a 4½-inch opening on front or side of endcap using center point marking (see illustration) as a guide. 1. Drill endcap. Lower the endcap to the ground and into place. NOTE: Place a few shovels of soil around the endcap to secure it during backfill. 10. To ensure structural stability, fill the sidewall area by pulling soil from the sides of the trench with a shovel. Start at the joints where the chambers connect. Continue backfilling the entire sidewall area, making sure the fill covers the louvers. 11. Pack down fill by walking along the edges of trench and chambers. NOTE: In wet or clay soils, do not walk in the sidewalls. 12. Proceed to the next trench and begin with Step 1. INSTALLING OUICK4 PLUS ALL-IN-ONE 12 ENDCAPS AS A MID-LINE CONNECTION 1. With a hole saw drill an opening appropriate for the pipe diameter being used on the side (3.3" invert) or on top (9.0" invert) of endcap. NOTE: Piping configurations are determined by the preference of the installer or designer. 2. With a hole saw, drill a 4½-inch opening on the end of the Quick4 Plus All-in-One 12 Endcap to create an invert at 0.5 inches. This will allow effluent to fill both sides of the chamber line. 3. Snap off the molded splash plate located on 2. Drill endcap on end. the bottom front of the endcap. 4. Install splash plate into the appropriate slots below the inlet to prevent trench bottom erosion. 5. Place the back edge of the endcap over the inlet end of the first chamber. Pipe in endcap inspection port. accommodate a 2-inch Schedule 40 pipe. 2. Set a cut piece of pipe of the appropriate length into the corresponding endcap's inspection port sleeve. 3. Use two screws to fasten the pipe to the sleeve around the inspection port. 4. Attach a threaded cap or cleanout assembly onto the protruding pipe at the appropriate height. 5. A small valve cover box may be used if the inspection port is below the desired grade. COVERING THE SYSTEM Before backfilling, the system must be inspected by a health officer or other official as required by State and local codes. Create an as-built drawing at this time for future records. 1. Backfill the trench by pushing fill material over the chambers with a backhoe. Keep a minimum of 12 inches of compacted cover over the chambers before driving over the system. NOTE: Do not drive over system while backfilling in sand. NOTE: For shallow cover applications, you must mound 12 inches of soil over the system before driving over it, and then grade it back to 6 inches upon completion. 2. It is best to mound several inches of soil over the finish grade to allow for settling. This also ensures that runoff water is diverted away from the system. 3. After the system is covered, the site should be seeded or sodded to prevent erosion. NOTE: If the system is for new home construction, it is important to leave marking stakes along the boundary of the system. This will show contractors where the site is located so they will not cross it with equipment or vehicles. 1//r- lnfiltrator" water technologies 4 Business Parle Road P.O.
