MANAAKI CARPET ROLL RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Notice Healthcare carpets are specifically constructed to be fit for purpose in health and aged care facilities, hospitals, etc. and therefore most have unique characteristics specific to each manufacturer. To ensure the carpet is installed correctly Ontera recommend that these instructions be read prior to quoting any project to ensure the installation is quoted correctly and the carpet is installed in accordance with our requirements. Further to this each installer involved in the installation of our carpet should read these instructions prior to commencing the installation. Dealer and installer must inspect carpet prior to installation. Ontera WILL NOT be responsible for visible defects after the carpet has been installed. Carpet should be installed with pressure sensitive adhesives to allow easy removal and reinstallation. Ontera will not be responsible for any complaints associated with our carpet when adhesives other than those recommended are used. Itis the responsibility of the installerto verify, before installation commences, that what has been delivered is what was specified, including correct product, colour and quantity. The designs and colouration within the Manaaki Collection were developed to allow for random pattern installation. Should your installation require specific pattern matching please refer to the guidelines as detailed within this document. Recommended tools Utility knives, replacement blades, napping shears, cushion back cutter, knee kicker, knee pads, wall roller, wall trimmer (Romus Plastic Carpet Cutter or equivalent carpet cutter), spiky seam roller, 25-35kg roller, V1 notched trowel, hand claw, builders square, straight edge, chalk line, hammer, tape measure, pencil. Installation Video Accompanying the following Manaaki installation guidelines is a video version showing a step by step guide. Click on the following link box to view. Video Link ( )

General Floor Preparation Ontera Manaaki carpet rolls are intended for indoor installation on dry properly prepared sub floors. The Manaaki product is not intended for installation on walls, ramps, wet surfaces or in any outdoor area. The floor should be prepared as per the current version of AS/NZS and these instructions. Please note where there is a discrepancy between the AS/NZS standard and these instructions, these instructions should be followed. Concrete floors may be primed or a moisture barrier applied where the subfloor is excessively porous, dusty, or evidence of underfloor moisture exists. (Please refer to primer/moisture barrier/levelling compound / adhesive manufacturers for further information and product recommendations). The floor must be dry, smooth, sound, clean, and free from dust and/or all foreign matter such as grease, paint, wax, oil, dirt, old adhesives/floor prep, etc. Cracks, holes and depressions must be filled with appropriate floor patching compound. Ensure the floor is thoroughly vacuumed (please refer to levelling compound manufacturers for detailed recommendations). In regards to the smoothness and planeness of the subfloor, the following conditions must be met as per AS/NZS Plane (surface) Of a condition such that when a straightedge 3 metres long is placed on the surface at any position, no part is more than 3mm above or below the straightedge Smoothness (surface) Of a condition such that, when a straightedge 150mm long is placed on the surface at any position, no part of it is to be more than 1mm below the straightedge. The surface of the concrete subfloor must be porous and cannot be burnished or overly power trowelled. Burnished or overly power trowelled surfaces leave an impermeable surface that the primers and adhesives cannot bond with. We recommend that a water drop test is done on the surface of the subfloor. This is where droplets of water approximately the size of a 50-cent piece are placed on the surface of the slab. If the water beads on the surface the slab, the surface is not suitable for the recommended adhesives and must be mechanically prepared to ensure the surface is porous. The water should penetrate the slab within seconds for it to be deemed suitable for the primer/adhesive/levelling compound/ moisture barrier application Protruding objects must be removed and sealed. Floor temperature should be a minimum of 16 C and the Manaaki rolls should be dry laid and conditioned at 16 C minimum for 24 hours prior to installing.

Moisture testing of subfloors Concrete subfloors All concrete subfloors are to be tested for Relative Humidity (RH) and Alkalinity (ph) prior to the installation commencing. RH testing is to be done via the current version of ASTM F2170 RH in-situ probe test method and ph testing is to be done in accordance with the current version of ASTM F710 using either a ph meter or ph papers. Always follow the RH & ph testing equipment manufacturer s installation instructions when undertaken testing. Site conditions for RH testing (temperature and RH) must be constant in the area being tested and must reflect in-service conditions. The requirements of the adhesive manufacturer are to be followed in regards to the maximum RH and ph of the subfloor however if adhesive manufacturer does not state any requirements in their instructions then the default readings are to be not more than 75% RH and the ph is between 7-9. For any readings outside of those noted here, moisture abatement steps MUST be taken in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer s recommendations. Timber subfloors All timber subfloors are to comply with the requirements for timber flooring in the relevant Australian/New Zealand Standard. The moisture content can be determined with an electrical resistance type meter and generally should be between 10-15% however always follow the adhesive manufacturer s recommendations. Where new or existing timber, plywood or particle board subfloors are to be used as the substrate, worn, rough, cupped, warped or damaged surfaces shall be sand or filled and must retail structural integrity. In some instances, it may require re-nailing of the old subfloor or repair it by replacing the worn and unsound sections. Ontera recommend that on all timber subfloors an underlay (as noted in AS 1884:2012) is to be installed in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions and site conditions. The moisture content of the subfloor must be tested prior to an underlay being installed as Hardboard, MDF and plywood underlays may react with the high moisture content of a timber subfloor. Adhesion Bond Test Ontera recommend that an adhesive bond test is undertaken, if there are any issues with the subfloor or unknown contaminants were previously on the subfloor, to ensure the compatibility of the adhesive to the subfloor. This test should be performed for a duration of at least a week to give the adhesive time to react with any contaminants in the subfloor with a minimum 500mm x 500mm sample. After a week remove the sample and the carpet should be difficult to remove and the adhesive should remain bonded to the subfloor. If the adhesive comes up with the sample or the carpet is not well bonded there may be an issue with the subfloor and we recommend contacting the adhesive manufacturer.

Conditioning Before commencing installation, the Manaaki rolls and all other materials being installed must be allowed to condition within or near the installation area for a period not less than 24 hours or until the product has achieved an ambient room temperature range of 16 C to 28 C. Areas being installed must have the HVAC system running or have other temperature control methods in place for at least 48 hours prior to the installation commencing, so that the ambient temperature is 16 C or above and the ambient RH is between 40-60%. Heating devices such as electric radiant heat or electric heat blowers shall be used. Where LPG gas blowers are used for raising the ambient room temperature, an ambient relative humidity of no more than 60% shall be maintained. As per the requirements of AS 1884:2012 (and for NZ, NZ 1884:2013) it is the responsibility of the builder, building owner and/ or end-user to provide temperature control devices. The areas to be installed must also have the HVAC or other temperature control devices operating during the installation and for a minimum 48 hours thereafter. It is critical that the carpet is only installed in a fully enclosed environment with all walls, floors, doors and windows installed. Ontera will not be responsible for carpet that is installed where the outside ambient conditions could affect the installation. Storage & Handling of carpet rolls Proper storage and handling practices must be followed at all times. If possible and safe, store rolls in a vertical position while awaiting installation. Carpet rolls must not be double stacked at any time. If carpet rolls are stored horizontally for any length of time, it is recommended to regularly rotate the rolls. Remove stretch wrapping immediately upon receipt of the delivery. Unrolling and conditioning the carpet to the installation area will assist installation and appearance. Store in a dry location Store rolls in an area protected from weather. Do not store in direct sunlight Manaaki Roll length Standard useable roll length is 10M x 2M. There may be a small amount of overage on some rolls due to manufacturing tolerances. Ontera recommended the material immediately around the core should be backwards rolled using the tube. If trimming is required for pattern matching the material closest to the core is initially suggested for trimming. There may be opportunities to source shorter roll lengths if required. Refer all enquiries to Ontera Customer Service Ph

Adhesive & Seam Sealer Adhesive should be a water based pressure sensitive acrylic product. A full spread of adhesive must always be applied with a V1 notched trowel. Always follow the adhesive manufacturer s recommendations in regards to the application rates, trowel size, surface conditions and moisture requirements of the subfloor. A low VOC emitting adhesive is recommended for minimal environmental impact during installation. Consult your adhesive company for their recommendations, application rates and warranties. The following Adhesives and Seam Sealers are tested and approved for use with the Ontera s Maxima Polyolefin backing. SUPPLIER RECOMMENDED ADHESIVE RECOMMENDED SEAM SEALER Mapei Ultrabond Eco Fix Mapei EZ-771 Seam Sealer Intafloors Ultra Stix XL Brand Stix Seam Sealer 10K Ontera will not be responsible for any complaints associated with our carpet when adhesives other than those recommended are used. Ontera is not responsible for product failure of any kind if the floor preparation, installation guidelines, conditioning procedures and tests above are not specifically followed, in which case the product warranty may be voided.

MANAAKI INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Ontera recommends 7 key steps in the installation process for the Manaaki roll goods. STEP 1 FLOOR PREPARATION Refer to instructions under General Floor Preparation on page 2 of this document. Key points include: The floor should be prepared as prescribed in the current version of AS/NZS The floor must be clean, level and smooth. Concrete floors may be sealed where floor is excessively porous or an approved moisture abatement system applied when evidence of underfloor moisture exists. Cracks, holes and depressions must be filled with appropriate floor patching compound refer to floor preparation AS/ NZS Floor temperature should be a minimum of 16 C and the Manaaki rolls should be conditioned at 16 C minimum for 24 hours prior to installing. STEP 2 ESTABLISH & PREPARE THE SITE LAYOUT Study the installation plans for the direction of the carpet and allowable seam positions. If plans permit always start as near to the centre of the area as possible. Dry lay the entire area to be carpeted. Dry laying will assist identifying the normal pattern variations and reveal any bow or skew within the roll. Rolls should be laid out and cut to length for each area progressively, allowing an overlap at each join for the appropriate pattern match refer to pattern repeat information below; MANAAKI PATTERN REPEAT INFORMATION The Manaaki Collection is designed for random pattern installation. Please accommodate any pattern bow and skew that may be present and adjust rolls as needed Should the project require more precise pattern matching, the pattern repeat information is listed below. The installer must confirm the pattern match in both width and length before beginning. MYRIAD AVAIL INTRINSIC KINDRED Pattern width: 2000mm Pattern length: 2350mm Pattern width: 2000mm Pattern length: 2350mm Pattern width: 2000mm Pattern length: 1810mm Pattern width: 2000mm Pattern length: 2260mm

STEP 3 CUTTING & SEAMING Select one edge of the carpet length and, with the aid of a chalk line and straight edge, trim off one factory edge to make a clean, straight edge. Ontera recommend a maximum of 15mm of selvedge is trimmed to maintain the structural integrity of the carpet. Slightly angle the cutter into the backing and away from the yarn to produce a bevelled cut that will help to make a tight seam. To ensure a well fitted seam, use the trace cut method to cut the second carpet edge. This is done by sliding the second carpet factory edge under the first cut edge. Using the first edge as a guide, trim the second edge by slightly angling the cutter into the backing and away from the face yarn to produce a bevelled cut that will help to make a tight seam as described above. If exact pattern matching is required, determine matching points before trimming off the second carpet edge. This procedure should then be repeated for subsequent pieces, working from the centre of the installation outwards. Position each of the cut edges together to check the integrity of the seam as outlined above. It is important that the seam should be tight without compression. Retrace and cut if necessary. Start pattern layout in the centre of the seam. Correct pattern matching, gaps and overlaid areas appropriately. Ontera production systems are carefully monitored and quality approved and will provide for an acceptable seamability if the appropriate cutting and installation techniques are followed. STEP 4 FOLDING CARPET BACK, APPLYING ADHESIVE TO THE FLOOR & FOLDING CARPET INTO ADHESIVE Carefully fold or roll back the first length of carpet approximately half of one width on either side of the centre seam, ensuring that the carpet is not moved during this process. Apply a water based (acrylic), pressure sensitive, low VOC adhesive in a uniform mannerto cover 100% of the floor using the recommended application rates and trowel size. Allow adhesive to tack off (for approx. 30 minutes) and carefully relay one width of carpet onto the adhesive. Note: It is responsibility of the installer to ensure the application rate of adhesive and/or primer is sufficientto achieve the correct adhesion. Roll once with a 25 35Kg roller to ensure correct adhesion and assist in the removal of any air bubbles. Avoid excessive rolling. STEP 5 SEAM SEALING, PERIMETER EDGES & TRIMMING IN Carefully trim the carpet around any perimeters ensuring all cuts are accurate. Seal the seam by applying a consistent bead of approximately 1.5mm of seam sealer directly to the cut edge of the backing. Full continuity ofthe seam sealer application is essential. (A jointis subsequently formed by chemical reaction providing a secure joint between two adjacent sheet products.) The adjacent edge should then be carefully abutted into the seam sealer to finish the join. Please take care to minimise the ingress of the sealer into the carpetfibres. Avoid pushing the carpet down into the seam weld. This process should then be repeated to cover the whole floor. Seam sealing all seams and ends including walls seams and the perimeter of the room - will provide an impermeable moisture barrier for the entire floor. On completion, a 25 35Kg roller should once again be passed over the whole carpet area to ensure that all air bubbles are removed from under the backing. STEP 6 FITTING TRANSITION AREAS Where Manaaki carpet meets other types of floor coverings, the edges must be protected with an appropriate transition moulding or strip that covers the carpet edge at least 12mm.

STEP 7 CLEAN UP & PROTECTION OF CARPET Remove any excess adhesive with a suitable adhesive remover. Vacuum and pile lift the total floor area and conduct a visual test of the installation appearance. Ontera recommend a pile lift process to ensure the best post-installation appearance. This will assist lifting the pile and help remove any pile distortion or crush that may have occurred during freight, storage or installation. Where required, the installed carpet should be covered or protected by a suitable material. No heavy foot traffic, rolling loads, etc. allowed over the carpet before the adhesive has cured and suitable protection has been installed. Scissor lifts, forklifts, pallet jackets, etc. should never be rolled over the carpet at any time as they can break the bond between the carpet backing and the subfloor. Plywood should be installed over the carpet when heavy objects are moved only after the adhesive has fully cured. Where building activity is ongoing, a breathable plastic must be placed over the carpet to protect it after hours, depending on the time the adhesive takes to fully cure. Installing plastic protection within hours can cause sweating under the plastic which can permanently mark the surface of the carpet. PRESSURE SENSITIVE SELF ADHESIVE PLASTIC PROTECTION MUST NEVER BE INSTALLED OVER ONTERA CARPETS AS THEY CAN LEAVE AN ADHESIVE RESIDUE ON THE CARPET SURFACE. The carpet should be the last product installed on a project after all other trades have completed their works. Installing the carpet before the other trades have completed their works may result in damage to the carpet or face cloth, heavy staining, delamination or dimensional stability issues which may not be evident until after the job site has been handed over to the end client. Ontera accept no responsibility or claims against damage caused to the Manaaki rolls due to any damage or soiling caused by other trades. STAIR INSTALLATION Stairs can be installed using a separate piece of carpet for each tread and riser and a stair nosing then fitted to the step. Where the width of the stairs is less than 2metres, each stair and riser is to be installed with no joins. The pile of the carpet must run down the stairs always. INSTALLATION TIPS AND TRICKS After the Manaaki rolls have been unrolled, the best way to manoeuvre the carpet is to fold it upon itself. Avoid twisting or scrunching the carpet rolls. If carrying the rolls along corridors or narrow areas, roll the carpet widthways to form a sausage shape for ease of manoeuvrability. If installing in cold temperatures, use of hot air blower (set at a low temperature) to briefly relax the backing prior to cutting the rolls may be beneficial for installers.

NOTES: The installation techniques listed in this document are intended to assist the installation of Ontera s Manaaki roll goods product for most commercial applications. Any variation from these instructions become the responsibility of the installer and not Ontera. For further assistance with installation please contact Ontera Technical services on MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATION The maintenance recommendations detailed in the Ontera Care and Maintenance Guide should be adhered to for optimum appearance retention.
