1 SECTION PLUMBING PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract including General and Supplementary Conditions, Division-1 Specification Sections, and the Mechanical General Requirements Section apply to work of this Section, as if repeated herein QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Units shall be products of manufacturer regularly engaged in production of such units and issuing complete catalog data on such products SUBMITTALS A. Submit shop drawings and product data in accordance with Division-1 and Section B. Submittals shall include the following: 1.04 WARRANTY 1. Catalog Data. 2. Submit outline specification indicating materials and other pertinent information. 3. Submit electrical data for all motors and controls. Data shall clearly indicate motor starting requirements. 4. Submit Operating and Maintenance Manuals including schedule for lubrication and related servicing. A. As specified in Section

2 1.05 SCOPE A. The work under this Section includes everything necessary for and incidental to executing and completing the Plumbing work, except as hereinafter specifically excluded. B. Work included shall be as indicated on the drawings, including but not limited to the following: 1. Sanitary Soil, Waste and Vent System. 2. Domestic Hot and Cold Water System. 3. Roof Drainage System. 4. Liquified Petroleum Gas System (propane). 5. Condensate Drain From Air Conditioning Unit. 6. Acid Waste and Vent System. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS A. Soil, Waste and Downspouts Above Grade: Service weight cast iron nohub with neoprene gaskets and type 301 stainless steel clamping device as approved by the Cast-Iron Institute. B. Soil, Waste, and Downspout Below Grade: Service weight cast-iron bell and spigot with neoprene compression type gasket joint. Option, service weight cast-iron pipe and fittings with MG cast-iron couplings, neoprene gasket and stainless steel bolts. C. Sewer from 5' Outside Building Except as Otherwise Noted on Plans: Extra strength vitrified clay pipe manufactured to ASTM Standards with plasticized polyvinyl chloride compound in bell and spigot ends. D. Vent Piping: Service weight cast-iron with same joint as used for soil and waste.

5 E. Acid Waste and Vent Piping Above and Below Grade: Schedule 80 flame retardant polypropylene pipe and fittings with fusion joints. F. Acid Waste Piping Below Lab Benches and Acid Vent Piping: Schedule 80 flame retardant polypropylene pipe and fittings with mechanical joints. G. Acid Waste and Vent Piping through Floors or Fire Walls: High silicon cast-iron pipe with adaptor. Length of pipe beyond fire stop to be determined by local administrative authority. H. All Domestic Water Piping: Above grade, type "L" copper tubing, hard drawn with wrought copper fittings, and 95-5 soldered joints. Below grade, type "K" copper tubing with wrought copper fittings and silver soldered joints. Install buried piping in single continuous length polyethylene outer tubing. I. Gas Piping Above Grade: 2-1/2" and smaller, Schedule 40-A-120 black steel screwed pipe with black banded 150-lb. malleable iron threaded fittings; 3" and larger shall be butt welded with factory-made wrought steel butt welding fittings. J. Gas Piping Below Grade: Steel piping shall be coated with factory applied continuous seamless coating of high density polyethylene minimum thickness of 23 mils. Joints shall be finished with thermnoshrink seal. Fittings shall be field wrapped. K. Gas Piping Below Grade: Polyethylene (PE) gas piping with butt fusion joints and fittings conforming to SDR-11 PE2306 CD ASTM. Pipe shall be labeled gas. L. Condensate Piping: Shall be type "M" copper tubing, hard drawn, with wrought copper fittings and solder joints PIPING SPECIALTIES A. Tracer Wire: Provide on all buried plastic pipe no. 10 AWG, TW insulated copper wire. Spiral wrap around complete length of all buried plastic piping at approximately 2' intervals, terminate above grade. B. Buried Utility Warning Tape: 6" wide plastic labeled buried utility warning tape. Tape shall be labeled with the appropriate service. Provide above all buried piping 5'-0" outside of building. C. Unions and Couplings: Size 2-inch and under: 150 PSI malleable iron, bronze to iron ground joint unions for threaded ferrous piping, all bronze for copper piping.

7 D. Flanges: Size 2-1/2" and over: 150 PSI, ANSI B16.5 forged steel slip-on flanges for ferrous piping, 150 PSI, ANSI B16.24 bronze flanges for copper piping. Gaskets: 1/16" thick. E. Isolation Unions: armored type of same size as pipe. F. Water hammer arrestors in accordance with PDI-WH-201 standards. Size as indicated in drawings. G. Trap Primer: Trap primer valve with distribution unit where required. Trap primers concealed in wall shall be behind access panel. H. Strainers 2" and Smaller: 250-lb. WWP, cast bronze, screwed, "Y" pattern, 20 mesh, SS screen. I. Strainers 2-1/2" and Larger: 150-lb. cast bronze, flanged, "Y" pattern, SS screen. Install plugged gate valve of same size as strainer plug. J. Thermometer: 9-inch adjustable angle, aluminum case, brass stem, separable socket, 2 degree temperature increments and degree range. K. Pressure Gauge: 4-1/2" size, black cast aluminum case, stainless steel ring, glass window, white dial with black figures and graduations, red tipped black adjustable pointer, brass/bronzed movement, phosphor bronze bourdon type, 1/4" NPT forged brass socket, 1% accuracy over middle half range, PSI dial range. Provide system pressure rated gauge cock between gauge and pipe VALVES AND FITTINGS A. Gate Valves 2-1/2" and Smaller: Class 150, bronze, non-rising stem, solid wedge, threaded or solder. B. Gate Valves 3" and Larger: Class 150, iron body, bronze mounted, flanged, bolted bonnett, solid wedge. C. Ball Valves 2-1/2" and Smaller: 600-lb. WOG, 3 piece ball valve, full port bronze, TFE seats, threaded or solder. D. Butterfly Valves 3" and Larger: 200 PSI, full lug pattern, lever lock operator, ductile iron body, aluminum bronze disc, 416.SS stem, copper alloy upper and lower bushing.

8 E. Check Valves, Swing, 2-1/2" and Smaller: Class 125, bronze, Y-Pattern, horizontal swing, renewable disc, threaded or solder. F. Check Valves, Swing, 3" and Larger: Class 125, iron body, bronze disc and seat ring, horizontal swing, flanged. G. Check Valves, Silent, 3" and Larger: 250-lb. WOG, iron body, silent check, bronze disc and seat, wafer style, spring actuated. H. Balancing Valve: Bronze body/brass ball construction with glass and carbon filled TFE seat rings. Valves to have differential pressure read-out ports across valve seat area. Read-out ports shall be fitted with internal EPT inserts and check valves. Valve bodies to have 1/4" NPT tapped drain/purge port. Valves to have memory stop feature to allow valve to be closed for service and then reopened to set point without disturbing balance position. All valves to have calibrated name plates to assure specific valve settings. All valves shall be provided with molded insulation to permit access for balance and read-out. I. Straight or angle chrome-plated brass, threaded, flexible riser, shielded loose key with escutcheon. J. Combination Pressure and Temperature Relief Valve: ASME rated automatic reseating, bronze construction. K. Gas Cocks 2" and Smaller: 125 PSI WOG, iron body, square head, bronze plug and washer. L. Gas Cocks 2-1/2" and Larger: 175 PSI WOG, semi-steel lubricated plug, flanged. M. Reduced Pressure Backflow Preventer: 175 PSI at 140 F, bronze body, celcon check seats, stainless steel relief valve seats, bronze body ball valve test cocks, non-rising stem gate valves (threaded for 3/4" thru 2" and flanged for 2-1/2" thru 10"), #909 EL Series vent elbow drain for sizes 3/43" to 3" (route drain to floor sink). N. Double Check Assembly: 175 PSI at 140 F, bronze body, celcon checks seats, rubber discs, bronze ball valve test cocks, non-rising stem gate valves (threaded for 3/4" thru 2" and flanged for 2-1/2" through 10"). O. Pressure Reducing Valve (1/2" thru 3" size): 300 PSI water, 160 o F temp., bronze body, renewable stainless steel seat, diaphragm for hot or cold water, bronze strainer with stainless steel screen, threaded for sized 1/2" thru 2-1/2", flanged for 3" size.

Pressure Reducing Valve (1-1/2" thru 6" size): 125 PSI Class, modified globe design, diaphragm actuated, hydraulically operated; cast-iron body and over, bronze trim, epoxy coated interior and exterior, fully guided 316 stainless steel stem, renewable seat, buna-n globe, flanged ends VALVE BOXES A. Concrete with self-closing cast-iron cover. Cover to be marked with name of service. Size as required for proper access CLEANOUTS A. Floor Cleanout: Polished nickel bronze non-skid adjustable round or square top. B. Wall Cleanouts: Chrome plated cover and screws. C. Outside Cleanout: Low flange type for non-surfaced areas and areas surfaced with asphalt paving. High flange type for areas surfaced with concrete or other poured material. Vandal-proof cover to be marked "Cleanout." Encase anchoring flange in 20" square x 6" concrete pad, top of cleanout flush with finished surface ROOF FLASHING A. Furnish and install on each pipe passing through the roof, four pound, seamless lead flashing assembly. Flashing shall have reinforced boot and be complete with cast iron counterflashing sleeve and Permaseal waterproofing compound. All vent pipes shall be terminated 7" above this roof ACCESS PANELS): (SEE SECTION 15050) 2.09 HANGER AND SUPPORTS (SEE SECTION SUPPORT, ANCHOR & SEALS) 2.10 INSULATION (SEE SECTION 15250) 2.11 FIXTURES (SEE SECTION 15441)

10 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 PIPE INSTALLATION A. No-Hub cast-iron Soil Pipe Institute Pamphlet #100 and the I.A.P.M.O. latest adopted pamphlets. B. Joints in copper tubing shall be made by first thoroughly cleaning the surface of the pipe and fittings, applying flux and sweating with solder. C. Pipe shall be carefully cleaned before installation. The ends of threaded pipe shall be reamed out full size with a long taper reaper so as to be partially bell-mouthed and perfectly smooth. D. All sanitary sewers, storm drains, and waste lines shall grade as indicated on drawings. The sections of the pipe shall be laid and fitted so that when completed the sewer will have smooth and uniform invert. Water shall not be allowed in the trenches while the sewer lines are being laid. Dirt, cement, or any other superfluous material of any description shall be carefully removed from the interior of the sewer system as the work progresses. Constant inspection shall be made of pipe and fittings during and after all installation for possible fractures and failures caused by installation. Backfill so as not to disturb pipe or jointing. E. Installation of polyethylene (PE) gas piping shall be by qualified installers. Qualified installers shall be certified by the manufacturers requirements and be certified with the regulations of the Department of Transportation, Materials Transportation Bureau, contained in the Code of Federal Regulations Title 49, Part 192. Section of these regulations details the procedure to be used to qualify persons to join plastic pipe. F. Plastic pipe risers shall be special manufactured steel to plastic pipe material installed in accordance with manufacturer's requirements. G. Flush out all water mains and sanitary drains with water so as to obtain free flow. Remove all obstructions and defects discovered. Remove and relay any sections and pipe already laid and found to be defective or which has grade or joints disturbed. H. Openings in pipes, drains, fittings apparatus and equipment shall be kept covered or plugged to prevent foreight substance from entering. I. Run piping free of traps, sags or bends. Grade and valve for complete drainage and control of the system.

11 J. All piping to be run to maintain headroom and keep passageways and openings clear. Run parallels and straights with adjacent walls or ceilings to present a uniform appearance. K. All piping, except where noted otherwise on plans, shall be concealed in walls or above ceilings. L. Bending or forcing of pipe will not be allowed. Use fittings for all offsets or changes in alignment of piping. M. Proper provision shall be made for expansion and contraction by means of fittings and anchors and supports of all piping. N. Street elbows, bushings and long screw fittings will not be allowed. O. PDI sized water hammer arrestors shall be installed at the supply to each self-closing water faucet and flush valve. P. Unions shall be installed after each screw-type valve, connections for all equipment, appliances and as required for erection and maintenance. No unions shall be installed in concealed location. Q. Install isolation unions on all connections between dissimilar metals (galvanized steel, black steel to copper). R. No holes for pipe or equipment will be allowed in any structural members without written consent of the Architect. Where pipes are to pass through or interfere with any member, or where notching, boring or cutting of the structure is necessary, the work shall be done by the General Contractor as directed by the Architect. S. The Contractor shall, at a time in advance of the work, furnish instructions to the General Contractor as to his requirements for openings, recesses, and chases in the walls, partitions, framing or openings. Should furnishing this information be neglected, delayed or incorrect and additional cutting is found to be required, the costs of the same shall be charged to the Contractor.

12 T. Sleeves through foundation walls shall be standard weight black steel pipe, flush with walls and two pipe sizes larger than the pipe passing through. Sleeves shall be caulked with oakum to within 1" of the wall lines and then completely filled with an approved bitumastic compound. Sleeves for piping through masonry wall above grade or floor or through floors shall be #10-gauge galvanized sheet steel and shall extend completely through the walls, or floor finishing flush on both sides. Sleeves shall be 1/2" larger than the pipe passing through with oakum caulking to make opening air-tight. U. Sleeves through fire walls or floors shall be packed with UL rated firestopping material equal to "Flamemaster" as manufactured by Dow Corning or 3M brand fire barrier caulk CP25 or putty 303, or other Fire Marshal Approved non-combustible material. V. Provide and install polished chromium plate brass floor, ceiling or wall plates for all pipes, exposed in finished portions of the buildings. W. All scaled and figured dimensions are approximate and are given for estimate purposes only. Before proceeding with any work, this Contractor shall carefully check and verify all dimensions, sizes, etc., and shall assume full responsibility to other parts of the equipment, and to the structure. X. Any minor changes in work, which has not been installed, shall be made by this Contractor without additional compensation, except changes which are caused by architectural revisions, which increase or decrease the size of materials specified or indicated on the drawings. This Contractor shall submit an estimate of the cost of or credit for such changes he does not consider of a minor nature and shall proceed only upon the written authority of the Architect. Y. All piping shall be isolated from other piping, any part of the building, framing conduit, etc., with 1" strips of hair felt or pipe isolators. grade. Z. Buried utility warning tape shall be located 12-inches below finished 3.02 CLEANOUTS A. Wall cleanouts shall be located, where possible, under countertops to avoid their being too conspicuous. Cleanouts shall be accessible in all cases. Cleanouts shall be brought to surface on "Y" branches. All cleanouts shall be provided with removable floor or wall plate as herein before specified. Cleanouts shall be located where indicated on drawings and at maximum spacing not to exceed plumbing code requirements.

14 3.03 REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE A. All of the following items must be completed prior to final inspections. No exceptions will be made and no final payment will be made until all items are completed. B. Thoroughly clean all parts of the piping, valves and equipment. Exposed parts which are to be painted shall be thoroughly cleaned of cement, plaster, and other materials, and all oil and grease spots shall be removed. Such surfaces shall be carefully wiped and all cracks and corners scraped out. C. Exposed metal work shall be carefully brushed down with steel brushes to remove rust and other spots left smooth and clean. Trap elements shall be removed during cleaning and flushing period, after which they shall be replaced and adjusted. D. Electrical device covers shall not be installed until finish coat of paint is completed. Device handles and receptacles shall be covered and/or protected during the painting operation to preserve the original factory bright new finish. E. All domestic hot and cold water, lines shall be sterilized with chlorine, the chlorine residual concentration shall indicate not less than 50 parts per million and shall be retained for a period of not less than four (4) hours. All work and certification of performance must be done by qualified personnel TESTS AND ADJUSTMENTS A. No piping work, fixtures, or equipment shall be concealed or covered until they have been inspected and approved by the Architect, who shall be notified when the work is ready for inspection. All work shall be completely installed, tested as required by this section and the State Ordinances and State Safety Orders, and shall be leak-tight before inspection is requested. All tests shall be repeated upon request to the satisfaction of those making the inspection. B. All domestic water piping shall be flushed out, tested and shall be left under pressure of supply main or a minimum of 40 PSI for the balance of the construction period. No air testing allowed. C. Written test results shall be given to the Owner.

D. Tests are to be applied for a minimum period of four (4) hours and until tests are complete. E. Final pressures at the end of test period shall be no more nor less than that caused by expansion or contraction of the test medium due to temperature changes. F. All protective coating systems shall be inspected with a 10,000 volt holiday tester and any holidays revealed shall be promptly repaired per manufacturer's instructions for repair of damaged pipe coatings DRAWINGS OF RECORD A. In addition to the reproducible "as-built" required, two complete sets of blueline mechanical drawings will be provided for the purpose of showing a complete picture of the work as actually installed. B. These drawings shall serve as work progress report sheets and the Contractor shall make all notations, neat and legible, thereon daily as the work proceeds. The drawings shall be available for inspection at all times and shall be kept at the job at a location designated by the Engineer. C. At completion of the work, these as-built drawings shall be signed by the Contractor indicating his approval, dated and returned to the Architect.

16 D. Invert elevations or buried piping and conduit. The dimensions location of all concealed raceway shall be accurately recorded as the "as-built" drawings. Elevation on Mean Sea Level base of all piping and conduit runs outside the building shall be recorded. **END OF SECTION**
