3 What used to be the headquarters of the worldrenowned Terry s of York Chocolate Factory has been redesigned and restored into The Chocolate Works Care Village, a remarkable residential and nursing care community. The centrepiece of the expansion, by Springfield Healthcare, is the unique bustling marketplace, featuring Karndean s Opus Terra alongside some of the original wooden planks. In addition, the reminiscent corridor hosting the story of Terry s features the striking nut brown tones of Knight Tile Mid Brushed Oak. 7 Many residents have limited regular access to the outdoors when residing in a care home so a lot of facilities are looking to the floor to bring the outside in. The warm, earthy tones of our Opus Terra in the two-storey market square were an ideal fit for the design specification, says Mark Gibbons, managing director of M.G. Flooring. He continues: The product looks great in the vast space, it s very warm and welcoming which the residents will appreciate. The zoning effect will help the visually impaired and distinguishes one key area from another. The square cut of this particular product makes it easy for us to handle, which you don t get with all vinyl products, and gives the room a modern feeling. It s also great with underfloor heating and has a R10 slip resistance rating which is just what you need when specifying for residential care spaces. Leading the way to the grand atrium is a nostalgic corridor fitted with Knight Tile Mid Brushed Oak. The Knight Tile floor was chosen because it had all the characteristics of the original floor, but with the durability of luxury vinyl, explains Mark. As well as having a realistic traditional grain pattern and brushed texture, the flooring will be able to withstand the most demanding environments, including heavy footfall, wheelchairs, and the constant moving of equipment.
