4 CHAPTER 1: Our Founder Steve Smith started Package Depot, Inc. with his father in In 2008, Foam Converting (a division of Package Depot) was launched. Steve is an expert in the foam packaging industry, with more than 28 years of experience. He has invented many effective products that help companies protect their products while in transit or storage. He has been awarded 3 patents. 5

5 CHAPTER 2: What We Do = The world is in need of finding new and insightful ways to go about its business. We are innovators in the foam packaging and foam insulation industries. The reason we do this is to find new, economical and green solutions in our area of work. We specialize in providing protective and insulating solutions for shipping and storage needs. We are a manufacturer that offers many types of customized products. Our main material is foam, and as you ll soon see, we can do all sorts of things with it. 6

6 CHAPTER 3: Types of Foam Understanding the types of foam we offer at Foam Converting will help you to determine which packaging solution is right for you. We begin with large rolls of polyethylene foam. (Later we ll discuss the products we convert these rolls into, i.e. foam pouches, insulated foam pouches, insulated foam rolls and many more.) 7

7 CHAPTER 3: TYPES OF FOAM We deal in 3 types of foam White Foam White foam is our standard for most custom packaging solutions we provide. It s available in 3 thicknesses: 3/32, 1/8, 1/4. Green Foam Green foam is a partially recycled foam that s available 3/32 thickness only. Pink Foam Pink foam is Anti-Static Foam. It is used with static sensitive items like electronics components and circuit boards. It is available 1/8 thickness only. We make a number of products using these types of foam. Before discussing them, let s first look at what kind of materials we can laminate to foam. 8

8 CHAPTER 4: Foam Laminates A laminate is a material bonded to another material, often using heat. You can see in the picture that a shiny outer foil has been laminated to an inner white foam, forming an insulating foam pouch. We laminate a number of materials to foam. 9

9 CHAPTER 4: LAMINATES Foam Laminates Foil Foil, or metalized polyester, is a reflective barrier that shields and insulates again heat transfer through waves (i.e. sun rays, light, etc.) Film Film, or 1 mil high density film adds extra strength and durability to foam. It s great for protecting objects with point edges or unsmooth surfaces. Paper Paper, or 60# kraft paper laminated to foam makes for a superior protective material, especially in roll form. 10

12 CHAPTER 5: CUSTOM FOAM PACKAGING PRODUCTS Foam Pouches With Flaps (or Lips) A taped down flap keeps items in the pouch. The flap length is customizable. Foam Pouches With Film (Inside or Outside) High density film adds extra strength and durability. Film is perfect for sharp or pointy items, as well as items with rough surfaces. Anti-Static Foam Pouches Anti-Static foam pouches are ideal for static sensitive items like circuit boards or electrical components. 13

13 CHAPTER 5: CUSTOM FOAM PACKAGING PRODUCTS Insulated Foam Bags Insulated foam bags, used with refrigerants such as gel packs or dry ice, work to keep your products cool or warm during transit. They offer 24 to 48 hour protection. Industries such as food shippers and caters, candy and chocolate makers, pharmaceutical companies, freight forwarders and the like use them. Insulated Bags Made To Your Specifications 14

14 CHAPTER 5: CUSTOM FOAM PACKAGING PRODUCTS Insulated Bags With Thin or Thick Seals Heavy duty seals. Thin seal is less bulky for lighter application, while thick seal is ideal for heavier content. Insulated Bags With Self Adhesive Tape Seal up bags for optimal insulation. Easy peel off strip makes sealing the bags simple and effective. Insulated Bags With Film Inside High density film adds extra strength and durability. Film is perfect for sharp or pointy items, as well as items with rough surfaces. 15

They have a squared bottom so they slide easily down into your box. They offer 24 to 48 hour protection. Industries such as food shippers and caters, candy and chocolate makers, pharmaceutical companies, freight forwarders and the like use them.
