3 Enrichment and Reforestation Since the start of the programme in 2014, ASMR allocated a nursery near the front gate to the office. Today (at the end of December 2014) the nursery which is run with the assistance of some of workers recruited from the local communities have germinated and nurtured more than 40,000 number of seeds and seedlings of various indigenous plants. These seeds and seedlings are procured from local sources. The commitment and care of the workers and supervisor to this nursery can be seen from the vibrant and healthy seedlings in this nursery. These seedlings are not only for the enrichment and reforestation of ASMR but can also be used for reforestation outside ASMR, e.g. in Tanjung Puting as per the TNTP MOU. ASMR prepared these seedlings to be planted when they are of age which is roughly after receipt of permits from Tanjung Puting National Park for planting in the buffer zone. 1/24/2015 Slide 13

6 Orangutan Monitoring and Patrolling The Satgas team had continued with the monitoring and patrolling The Satgas team monitoring members are from Sustainability, GIS, PAD staff. They monitor and patrol 3 times a month inside and outside the concession The Satgas uses SMART (Spatial Monitoring And Reporting Tool) system In the month of October until December, the Satgas team have not sighted orangutan activities around monitoring area, but noted several sighting of Macaca and Bekantan (Probocis Monkey) along the Sekonyer river Illegal logging activities also found and have been reported to various regional department and police for further actions from these government department. Also observed community planting of oil palm on a Belukar Tua designated area. 1/24/2015 Slide 46

7 Orangutan Monitoring and Patrolling Satgas team sighted Bekantan (Probocis monkey) and Macaca (Long tail Macaca) along Sekonyer river in October, November & December 1/24/2015 Slide 67

8 Orangutan Monitoring and Patrolling Monitoring team found a house and boat along the Sekonyer river when patrolling by boat in December This can be a threat to the buffer zone of TNTP. 1/24/2015 Slide 58

9 Orangutan Monitoring and Patrolling- Illegal logging Monitoring team found woods from illegal logging by community in October Plans being put in place on reporting these and looking into ways to mitigate these activities through CSR and partnership. 1/24/2015 Slide 79

10 Orangutan Monitoring and Patrolling- Community Land Clearing & Planting of Oil Palm Monitoring and visiting teams found areas cleared by community near to the desa along the Sekonyer River in December Plans being put in place on socialise and discuss with community to manage clearance on go area only. 11 MOU with TNTP Update on implementation of MOU with Tanjung Puting National Park (TNTP) Director of BGA has met with local government in October and conveyed the plan for enrichment of 800 ha (Tanjung Harapan) and the importance of the area that is currently under local government, to be managed by TNTP. A meeting between TNTP and NGOs was arranged to discuss plan for managing the enrichment and the area under TNTP. Building the nursery of fruit and wood seedlings from indigenous plants for enrichment and reforestation around ASMR and buffer of TNTP (page 2-5) 1/24/2015 Slide 11

12 MOU with BOSF Update on planned MOU with BOSF Feedback on the SOP has been discussed and accepted. Waiting for confirmation on scheduled plans for this joint program of orang-utan mitigation for ASMR This joint will include implementing Best Management Practice on avoiding and management of conflict between orangutan and other endangered species with plantation and human activities. 1/24/2015 Slide 12 13
