11 RESPONSIBLE PEAT PRODUCING CERTIFICATION SYSTEM Responsibly Produced Peat aims at achieving the following benefits: Maximizing peat production from degraded peatlands, leaving natural peatlands with high ecological biodiversity untouched Securing the best possible development after completion of peat production, with preference for restoration Assuring the long-term availability of a highly valuable growing media constituent One of our association member Klasmann-Deilmann group in Lithuania are certificated by this system. 12 COOPERATION IN PROJECTS Tyruliai - LIFE The main project objective is to ensure the favorable conservation status of the priority bird species Didysis Tyrulis Ltd (project partner) is working locally in one area, which has no natural values including species and habitats The peat extraction area is restricted to the 200 ha only, which is small part of the whole bog (about 4000 ha) After the finish of the peat extraction, the company should restore damaged area through the implementation different actions including rewetting Source:
13 COOPERATION IN PROJECTS Aukštumala LIFE Project partner - Klasmann- Deilmann Šilutė Ltd Project goal to preserve and restore the Aukštumala Telmological Reserve. To maintain or achieve a favorable conservation status of the habitat of European importance Active raised bogs Source:
