37 AP Wire/BBC News: A new global monitoring system has been launched that promises "near real time" information on deforestation around the world. Forest campaigners say this is the equivalent of 50 football fields of trees being cut down, every minute of every day over the past 12 years.

49 LEGALITY? 2 nd US HARDWOOD RISK ASSESSMENT (REVIEW DRAFT) Commissioned by AHEC in 2017, expert team led by Seneca Creek We are highly confident that national and state laws that apply to the hardwood sector are effective and enforced The amount of stolen timber across the hardwood region is very low relative to total hardwood production...very likely less than 1% Low Risk of sourcing illegal hardwoods per the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation... Low Risk of sourcing illegal or unsustainable hardwoods pursuant to the current requirements for avoiding controlled or controversial sources outlined in certification and procurement programs We conclude that there is both national and international consensus that the hardwood resource is consistently well managed AMERICAN HARDWOOD EXPORT COUNCIL
