7 Social and Environmental Benefits June Water and Wastewater Providing improved drinking water treatment/distribution as well as wastewater collection/ treatment for the benefit of more than 13 million border residents, most significantly impacted by new capacity to eliminate more than 470 MGD (20.5 m 3 /sec) of untreated or inadequately treated sewage. 26 Water Conservation Estimated annual water savings of 330 MGD (456 million m 3 /year). As a comparison, this quantity is sufficient to serve the average drinking water demands of 4 million people. 23 Solid Waste Management 2.9 million residents with improved waste collection and disposal services, resulting in the capacity to properly dispose of 1,550 tons of waste per day. 12 Air Quality Projects 7.5 million residents benefited from reduced exposure to air pollution from vehicular traffic on unpaved streets. Approximately 170,000 tons per year of PM 10 anticipated to be eliminated. 29 Energy Offset demands of traditional fossil-fuel based energy production, avoiding nearly 2.86 million metric tons CO 2 -e per year. Annual generation of 5,433 GWh of energy from renewable sources. 7

The proposed project will provide Pomerene with a technically and financially feasible system to bring arsenic concentrations in their drinking water within the established MCL The Whetstone Water Improvement District (WWID) is currently pursuing BECC Community Assistance Program (CAP) funding for the construction of the new Well No. 3, for the construction of a new pipeline under State Road (SR) 90, and for upgrades to the electrical equipment at the existing water plants. The purpose of the Project is to improve drinking water quality by blending Well #1 with surface (spring) water to bring arsenic concentrations within the established maximum contaminant level The project is expected to provide access to safe and reliable drinking water services, benefitting 330 existing residential connections June 2016 Cost (million) 19, homes
