The water shortages and droughts have highlighted or magnified the importance of managing water resources more carefully, remarks Mr Lane. Integra has worked to meet these challenges by creating systems that operate on a closed loop basis; recycling water within a process and avoiding unnecessary discharge into trade waste and other waste treatment systems, thus reducing the amount of resources wasted in a given application. Recent projects include work for the Department of Defense, the agricultural industry and the mining sector. We ve had a very successful project for the Department of Defense, which was a heavy vehicle wash that also has applications in heavy industry. It is difficult to comprehend the scale of the project without witnessing the processes involved, but Mr Lane describes it as not your typical vehicle wash! Integra s heavy vehicle wash is used by the DOD to clean and maintain its armored vehicles and machinery, a process in which Integra was able to include green technologies, using recycled wash water and allowing it to be used safely and effectively. The project uses 80 thousand litres an hour of reusable wash water, which is recycled through our biological treatment plant with no discharge to sewer. It utilises innovative hydro cyclone technology as well as a biological process incorporating bacteria to consume oil and grease. The water shortages and droughts have highlighted or magnified the importance of managing water resources more carefully. Other major projects include a desalination plant servicing Brisbane Airport Corporation and its water treatment needs. We built a sizable desalination plant for Brisbane Airport Corporation using recycled water to supplement their toilet systems and cooling towers within the airport, explained Mr Lane, an example of the company s incorporation of innovative technologies and its desire to work towards conservation of valuable water resources. Arguably one of Integra s most exciting and promising new developments is its use of a water treatment product called TwinOxide, for which the company has the distribution rights within all of Australia. TwinOxide is a chlorine dioxide disinfectant product with vast applications for water treatment and in particular the agricultural industry and food production industry. It has been lauded as a safer, more effective and ecologically sound disinfectant agent than the traditional chemical of choice, chlorine. Integra has applied this product to producing potable water for large-scale industry including mining, but envisions much greater applications. In agriculture, The product can be dosed directly onto organic material and it will not cause leaf burn or leave taint and odor issues behind like chlorine will. Because the product is so effective on a much broader ph range, cases of bacterial infection have dropped since the introduction of the TwinOxide product.

7 and vegetables, higher yields and better tasting products which will have no chemical after-taste. The product has also seen fantastic results in the meat and poultry industry, with production companies receiving excellent feedback from consumers about the freshness and taste of their products. Because the product is so effective on a much broader ph range, cases of bacterial infection have dropped since the introduction of the TwinOxide product. It has allowed the poultry industry to produce larger, healthier looking chickens that suffer fewer throat infections and even consume less feed for the same weight gain due to cleaner water that they drink. Also, when the product is applied in the production process to the processed chicken meat, it has proven more effective at treating bacterial growth, leading to extended shelf life. Also, the industry has seen fewer complaints about the chemical flavour that chlorine has produced in the past. In red meat, TwinOxide has provided a means of protecting meat from contamination of E. coli which has a significant cost to the industry.
