GENERAL INFORMATION: The City of Palo Alto owns, operates and maintains all of its utilities, and this means that residents and businesses in Palo Alto benefit in many significant ways: Competitive utility rates Reliable service and safe operations Local control and policy-setting High level of responsiveness and accountability to citizens and utility customers Community values-driven programs and services Return on investments to the City and community through annual transfers to the City s General Fund. The City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) is responsible for all electric, natural gas, water and wastewater collection services. Additionally, since 1997, a dark fiber optic loop has been available to business customers. For information about current services, please visit or call the Customer Service Center at Trash collection and recycling, wastewater treatment and storm drains are under the purview of the City s Public Works Department. For information about those services, please visit or call UTILITIES ADVISORY COMMISSION (UAC): The UAC is a five-person citizen commission established by City Council in 1991 to provide in-depth review of utilities issues and give members of the community an opportunity to participate in open discussion on matters related to the electric, gas, and water utilities. The opinions and recommendations of the UAC are very important factors in CPAU s long-range planning and policy. The UAC meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
