2 Market Information VIRIDIAN S HISTORY New Jersey was Viridian s third market. We began serving the electric Customers of PSE&G in May 00, Atlantic City Electric in June 00, and JCP&L and Rockland Electric in August 00. We began serving natural gas Customers of New Jersey Natural and PSE&G in January 0, and South Jersey natural gas Customers in March 0. RESIDENTIAL MARKET SNAPSHOT.% HAVE CHOSEN A SUPPLIER MARKET SNAPSHOT* As of April 0, 405,408 residential accounts had chosen a third-party supplier, representing.% of the more than. million eligible accounts. 87.9% HAVE NOT CHOSEN In the commercial sector,,44 of 478,6 eligible non-residential accounts had chosen a third-party supplier, representing.% of the market. LOCAL LANGUAGE Third-party suppliers are usually referred to by the utilities and by state regulators as electric suppliers. Some utilities, specifically Atlantic City Electric, do refer to suppliers as third-party suppliers and often abbreviate the name to TPS or TP. REGULATORS New Jersey utilities and suppliers are regulated by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU). The BPU licenses suppliers, monitors market activity and implements consumer protection policy when it comes to energy choice. 3 WHAT THE UTILITY SAYS ABOUT CHOOSING A SUPPLIER Atlantic City Electric: Whether you choose to stay with Atlantic City Electric as your electricity supplier, or choose another supplier, we will continue to provide reliable energy delivery and service. Source: Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L): In the past, Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), your local distribution company, provided every aspect of your energy service. This included generating the electricity and delivering it to your home or business. Through the New Jersey Energy Choice program you are able to choose an electric generation supplier, to generate the electricity. JCP&L will continue to deliver the electricity and maintain the same poles and wires. Rockland Electric, New Jersey Natural and South Jersey Gas Customers will still receive budget billing on both the supply and delivery portions of the bill after enrolling with Viridian. Financial Assistance For most New Jersey utilities, financial assistance programs are automatically applied to both portions of the bill. Atlantic City Electric Customers who receive financial assistance must call Atlantic City Electric to request that their aid be applied to both portions of their bill. Financial assistance can be applied to both, even if the Customer is on budget billing. In all cases, whether a Customer is on budget billing or is receiving financial assistance of any kind, it is always best to have him or her contact the utility s billing department or Local Distribution Company (LDC) to fully understand how billing will be affected when switching to Viridian. You have the opportunity to choose a third-party supplier based on the pricing or because of other services or programs it offers. The choice is yours and it may result in cost savings. No matter what. Source: SPECIAL RATE CODES Atlantic City Electric: MGS Customers with disproportionately high kw demand have what is called a Distribution Ceiling Limit. These Customers have a unique billing structure and are not considered good candidates to enroll with Viridian. Please see the Atlantic City Electric section on Page 6 for more information on Customer rates. PSE&G: RHS This unique residential heating rate is typically much lower than the standard residential rate. These Customers will not experience the same price difference as Customers on the standard rate, and are most likely not good candidates for Viridian s rate. Please see the PSE&G section on Page 0 for more information on Customer rates ENROLLMENT AND BILLING CUSTOMER ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES Budget Billing If an Atlantic City Electric, JCP&L or PSE&G Customer is on budget billing, that billing will apply only to the delivery portion of the Customer s bill after signing up with Viridian. The supply portion of the bill will not be on budget billing Before you approach a potential Customer to enroll with Viridian, you ll want to make sure you know how to explain enrollment. The following section will help you become familiar with utility bills. You ll see a utility bill sample and where to find the information the Customer will need for enrollment. 4 Market Information cont. Comparing Rates All six New Jersey utilities set their Price to Compare on a monthly basis. Viridian will always include the utility s comparison rate and how long it will be in place on our rate tools for easy comparison. Even though your Customer will likely ask to see a rate-torate savings comparison, remember that any comparisons are strictly estimates since Viridian s rates, the utility s rates and the Customer s usage will vary. when the 60 or 0 day limit is reached. Once the Customer is dropped from Viridian s service due to nonpayment, he or she is ineligible to enroll with Viridian or any other third-party supplier for another months. Therefore, if your Customer knows that he or she has an outstanding balance of 60 or 0 days on his or her electric/natural gas bill, the Customer should pay off the balance prior to enrolling with Viridian to ensure that the enrollment will be accepted. Staying current on billing New Jersey does things a little differently when it comes to consumer eligibility for a third-party supplier. If electric Customers are more than 60 days behind with their payment to the utility (or 0 days behind for natural gas Customers), they are not eligible for the utility s consolidated billing service: one bill that includes charges from both the utility and the supplier. Under these circumstances, their Viridian enrollment will be rejected by the utility. Similarly, if Customers are initially accepted by Viridian and then fall behind on their payments, the utility will automatically drop the Customers from Viridian s service NEW JERSEY COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS Delinquent Payment Provision Form In addition to the standard enrollment form, New Jersey commercial Customers must also provide some additional information in order to enroll with Viridian. There are two options: They may submit one recent bill plus the Delinquent Payment Provision form (DPP), which would allow Viridian to debit their account in the event of nonpayment after several attempts to collect payment have failed. Or, in lieu of the DPP form, they may provide two out of their three most recent utility bills, showing payment in full. New Jersey Customer Billing Default Process Utility Consolidated Billing Dual Billing Payment & Collection Customer neglects to pay bill from utility. Customer neglects to pay second consecutive bill from utility. Utility switches customer to Dual Billing. Viridian sends final bill to customer. Customer pays bill to Viridian. Customer does not pay bill to Viridian. Customer is dropped from Viridian s service.. Utility notifies Viridian. Viridian collects amount owed:. 5 Atlantic City Electric (ACE) Enrollment & Billing ENROLLMENT RATES To enroll with Viridian, an ACE Customer must provide his or her -digit Service Number, located under Details of your Electric Charges at the top of the utility bill on page. The Supply Charges on page also shows a Supply Price Comparison, which lists a rate per kilowatt-hour that you can compare directly with Viridian s rate. Most ACE residential Customers who are eligible for Viridian s service will have Residential Service listed at the top of the Electric Charges section on page. 6 POST ENROLLMENT Utility Notification: Shortly after the Customer s enrollment is processed, ACE will send a letter in the mail notifying the Customer of the service change to an electric supplier. After a Customer has enrolled with Viridian, the Customer will continue to receive a bill from ACE as usual. A few things will look different. Viridian s total charge and name will be listed on the bill summary on page and of the bill. The Customer s detailed supply charge will be broken out separately on page. Billing adjustments include any reconciliation fees from the previous month s pricing and any other standard fees associated with the supply of energy in the grid. The Customer will continue to pay the entire amount due to the utility as shown on page of the bill. 7 Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) Enrollment & Billing ENROLLMENT RATES To enroll with Viridian, a JCP&L Customer must provide his or her 0-digit Customer Number, typically located on Page of the bill under the Charges from JCP&L portion of the bill. Viridian s rate will replace the Basic Generation Service found on Page under the JCP&L charges. Most JCP&L Customers that are eligible for Viridian s service will have one of the following rate codes: RS (Residential Service), GS (General Service). 9 Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) Enrollment & Billing ENROLLMENT RATES To enroll with Viridian, a PSE&G Customer must provide his or her electric 8-digit PoD ID. The PoD ID (which stands for Point of Delivery ) begins with PE and is followed by 8 digits, and is found on Page in the electric section of a Customer s utility bill. Please note that this is different from the gas PoD, which begins with PG. Viridian s rate will replace the charges in the Supply portion of the bill, which includes Generation, Transmission and Energy Supply. Most PSE&G Customers that are eligible for Viridian s service will have one of the following rate codes: RS (Residential Service) or GS (General Service). The rate code description can be found at the top of Page, next to charges. The standard residential service will say RS. Customers on PSE&G s special residential heating rate, written as RHS, may not be good candidates for Viridian s service. For more information, please see the Eligibility section on Page of this market guide. Additionally, PSE&G provides shadow billing, which allows the Customer to compare Viridian s supply price to what the Customer would have been charged if the utility was the supplier.
