21 Vuores: Main goals 13,000 inhabitants, jobs The goal is to build a structurally and functionally harmonious urban district on the territory of two municipalities > small town image, urban village The natural environment and ecology are an essential part of the area identity. The environmentally valuable areas are protected. Diversity in the housing stock and social structure. Traffic system emphasises public transport, walking and cycling

34 Cooperation at the national level Mayors climate network The mayors of the the six largest cities of Finland established the Mayors climate network in Spring The mayor of Tampere Timo P. Nieminen is the chair and the ECO2 team acts as secretary. In August 2011 six tangible climate initiatives were announced: development of a roadmap on energy smart construction for each city development of construction instructions and supervision in the direction of energy information and quality management development of climate information and support for citizens climate acts through a joint project by the cities assignment of eco support staff for workplaces lowering the need for travel by introduction of teleconferencing climate impact assessment in budgeting Kaupunginjohtajien ilmastoverkosto 34

35 Some other projects increasing ecoefficiency in Tampere Ilmankos (see slides of Ilmankos) Vuores BaltCICA, CHAMP Regional adaptation Goals of the Project Improve the residents community spirit and participation Encourage people to make climate friendly choices and reduce their carbon footprint Integrate immigrants into local communities City of Tampere is located between two lakes, Lake Näsijärvi and Lake Pyhäjärvi. The level of Lake Näsijärvi is 17 m higher than Lake Pyhäjärvi. The study area is Pyynikin Epilänharju, an high esker between the Lakes. The Small Town in the Midst of Nature
