7 1) Health and Safety Present Scenario Health & safety of workers is given minimal importance The Need Provide personal safety equipment Masks, gloves, belts, helmets etc., Regular cleaning of debris Prevent harm due to protruding nails, glass and broken steel pieces Segregation & disposal of waste Better illumination levels Natural / Artificial lighting 2) Indoor Environmental Quality Present Scenario Poor indoor working environment The Need Only low VOC materials should be handled Paints, Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants Regular house keeping measures Dust suppression Adequate ventilation Exhaust hazardous fumes, dirt and gases

8 3) Sanitary Measures Present Scenario 80% of workers are not provided with proper sanitary requirements The Need Provide good sanitation measures Toilets & Rest rooms E.g.,1 Toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Require adequate supply of potable quality water Food service & Canteen facilities Should be away from contaminated / toxic areas 4) Medical Facilities Present Scenario Medical facilities are not a priority The Need The maximum thrust Require proper medical services First aid Medical attention Emergency facilities

9 5) Day care for Workers Kids Present Scenario Not much emphasis in taking care of kids The Need Provide day care facilities near to work place To Sum-up IGBC rating systems recognises & rewards workers well being Tremendous benefits Beneficial to workmen, community, country... Construction work in Green Buildings will be Healthier and Safer than conventional buildings
