6 Engineers Newsletter Live, Plainview, Pine Brook: March TBD Topic Chilled-Water System Decisions Many chilled-water system decisions are made during the course of the design process. Those design decisions and the specific application lead to other system decisions - such as bypass line sizing and length, pump location, use of pressure independent valves, buffer tank size, etc. This ENL covers the reasons for many system decisions in short segments, a bit different than previous ENLs. You will leave this program with practical guidance that should simplify future design of chilled water systems., Plainview, Pine Brook: May TBD Topic Controls Technology Update The marketplace demands open, standard communication protocols to deliver flexible, interoperable control systems for building owners. Recent innovations in the industry have made these options more prevalent for building owners. This ENL will review these various communication protocols (using both wired and wireless technologies), discuss where each best applies, and describe ways to ensure the needs of the owner are indeed met. You can earn 1.5 CEU credits Fee: FREE, Plainview, Pine Brook: October TBD Topic Demystifying Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) This ENL builds on the 2014 Applying Variable Refrigerant Flow with detailed discussions on several topics including when to use heat recovery instead of heat pump configurations, how to apply VRF with traditional ducted systems, system and sizing considerations for both hot and cold climates, ventilation delivery, and more considerations., Plainview, Pine Brook: November TBD Topic ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and Energy Modeling The demand for energy modeling has increased over the years due to the adoption of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 into green building standards and green building rating systems. Engineers have been using building simulation software to calculate building load, compare different HVAC systems and control options, perform life cycle cost analysis as well as demonstrate compliance. This ENL will discuss how to model a proposed building against the baseline buildings according to ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G Performance Rating Method. Common energy conservation measures will be implemented and potential energy savings discussed. To sign up: go to 6
