1 OPERATION MANUAL Marin stage water filter system for marine aquaria from l ( gal l. With the purchase of this filtration system you have selected a top quality product. It has been specifically designed for aquaristic purposes and has been tested by professionals. With this unit - if used correctly - you are able to reduce organic substances and other pollutants of your aquarium water to non-toxic levels. The filtration system consists of a mechanical prefilter, a trickle filters, an air driven protein skimmers and an anaerobic denitrifying filter. The filtration system Marin 500 convinces by its compact and functional design and its clear arrangement.

2 1. Delivery The filtration system is delivered in a separate glass tank. Dimensions 48 x 48.5 x 17 cm components: - glass tank, with inflow chamber, surface overflow and mechanical prefilter - Midiflotor, air driven protein skimmer - trickle filter module, filled with Bactoballs and 2 recirculation pumps 1000 l/h - Nitratereductor. Only an air pump for the Midiflotor has to be added to run the filter. 2. General description of the system The tank is placed inside a suited aquarium ( see also chapter 4). The water flows via an overflow and a lower placed security boring into the mechanical filter. Here, the water is filtered with a sponge. From here, the water enters the skimming chamber with the Midiflotor. From the skimmer, the water flows into the trickle filter module and is pumped back into the aquarium. The control valve in the trickle filter module ensures a water level of approx 10 cm in the module. Two recirculation pumps pump the water on the trickle plate and back into the aquarium The Nitratereductor is connected via a bypass 3. The overflow comb is adjustable. By moving the comb up and down, the percentage of water from the surface or from the bottom can be adjusted. The security boring in approx 25 cm depth is closed with a plastic grating. It allows bottom water to enter the filter and prevents a running dry of thepumps, if the water level in the aquarium is too low (evaporation) or the prefilter sponge is blocked. Cleaning: The overflow comb and the security boring have to be cleaned regually, to ensure a free water flow. prefilter The prefilter sponge ( 2 cm thick) prevents that coarse waste particles enter the filter system. It has to be cleaned regually. This can be done with hotvfresh water, because the filter acts not as a biological filter, the settling of bacteria is not desired at this place. The sponge has to be cleaned every 1 2 weeks.

Trickle Filter Module In the trickle filter module, organic waste substances, esp ammonia are oxidised. The end product is CO 2 and also nitrate and phosphate. The water level in the trickle filter is lowered so much, that the filter material, the Bactoballs, are not submerged. This is possible, because the water can enter the filter module only via the flow control valve. This valve closes automatically, when the water level has reached the desired level fig 4: trickle filter module 1. inflow from the pump 2. trickle plate 3. Bactoballs 4. Grate 5. float switch 6. inflow from the filtration chamber 7. outlet to pumps ( 2 pcs) 8. water level removal of the module: The trickle filter module has a big dynamic lift, due to the low water level. To compensate this lift, the module is fixed between 2 glass bars. It can only be taken out, if the Nitratereductor was removed before from the filter chamber. The trickle filter can then slide to the place of the Nitratereductor and taken out. To clean the pumps, the Midiflotor has to be removed.

4 - pumps The trickle filter module is supplied with 2 circulation pumps, with a capacity of l/h each. The first pump delivers the water back to the aquarium. The second pump pumps the water on top of the trickle filter, where it is evenly distributed and trickles over teh Bactoballs. In the bottom of the filter chamber, the filtered water mixes with the freh water, that flows in via the flow control valve. The high capacity ensures an optimum filtration. - starting As soon as the whole filtration chamber is filled with water, tha pumps can be switched on. The water level in the trickle filter will decrease until the float valve openes and the desired water level is adjusted.if the pump stops, the filter will be flooded. - Maintenance The maintenance of the trickle filter concentrates on the moving parts. - pumps: From time to time, the pumps have to be removed and cleaned. Attention: Before you remove the pumps, disconnect the electricity. - flow control valve. If the flow control valve does not work correctly, you can clean the inflow hole. Further maintenance is not necessary. - The trickle plate is maintenance free. The Bactoballs can stay in their place for many years without being cleaned. 3.4 Nitratereductor ( see separate manual) 4. Mounting of the filter The inside filter system Marin 500 is delivered ready to use. The glass tank has the dimensions: 48 x 48 x 17 cm and can be used inside of an aquarium with the minimum dimensions 50 x 50 cm ( Width x Height) There are several possibilities of mounting (see the fig)

5 view from the top: k left side 2. back, middle 3. right side 4. back side, left 5. back side right 4 5 It is possible to mount the filter at the right or left side of the aquarium or at the back side in a corner or in the middle. Fix mounting: If glass bars do not allow the mounting of the filter, these glass bars have to be removed. (glas specialist). In this case, the filter has to be glued into the aquarium with silicone in order not to destroy the stability of the tank. Also all edges, at the side and at the bottom, can be sealed with silicone, so no detritusor animals can be trapped. However, it is also possible just to put the filter into the aquarium, even under existing glas bars. However, in this case, the maintenance of the filter is difficult and it is not sealed tight at the sides and the bottom.

Warranty Should any defect in material or workmanship be found within twenty four months of the date of purchase undertakes to repair or, at our option, replace the defective part free of charge always provided the product has been installed correctly, is used for the purpose that was intended by us, is used in accordance with the operating instructions and is returned to us carriage paid. The warranty term is not applicable on the all consumable products. Proof of Purchase is required by presentation of an original invoice or receipt indicating the dealer s name, the model number and date of purchase, or a Guarantee Card if appropriate. This warranty may not apply if any model or production number has been altered, deleted or removed, unauthorised persons or organisations have executed repairs, modifications or alterations, or damage is caused by accident, misuse or neglect. We regret we are unable to accept any liability for any consequential loss. Please note that the product is not defective under the terms of this Warranty where the product, or any of its component parts, was not originally designed and / or manufactured for the market in which it is used.
