9 Market barrier and policy landscape assessment What are the drivers for strategic electrification goals? GHG emissions reductions. Many states and communities in the Northeast have adopted 80 percent reduction by 2050 goals. Economic development goals. Development of markets for electric vehicles, heat pumps, and other electrification technologies has the potential to create jobs and increase investment in the Northeast region. Energy security concerns. Electrification enables broader use of domestic fuels and improves global competitiveness. Resiliency goals.
