2 AMO FY15 Key Activities Industrial Assessment Centers (energy.gov/iac) Free assessments for small and medium sized manufacturers Expand Better Plants supply chain support Produce MOUs for collaboration with utilities/implementers Find additional partners to take IAC interns Provide assessments of municipal or industrial water/wastewater CHP Technical Assistance Partnerships (energy.gov/chp) 7 Regional TAPs (Midwest is UIC ERC) Offer free technical assistance to potential host sites and also CHP education Sector-specific targets (Critical Infrastructure, Hospitals, Federal Facilities, Biomass, and Microgrids) Track CHP policy changes and provide education/information to support policy Research projected in waste heat to power, non-energy benefits and state potential Expand and update project profiles by sector and region

3 AMO FY15 Key Activities (continued) Better Buildings, Better Plants (energy.gov/betterplants) 25% reduction in energy intensity in 10 years Over 150 organizations with over 2300 facilities Expanding into water and wastewater treatment plants (considering energy utilities as well) Add partners to supply chain initiative Investigate potential for utility-grade program evaluation/counting of savings Superior Energy Performance (energy.gov/isosep) Pilot in wastewater treatment, energy intense industrial Expand to commercial/institutional facilities Add additional enterprise-wide partners Develop EM&V-approved program design for program administrators (utilities or states)

4 SEM & SEP Value to Utilities What is the value of Strategic Energy Management (SEM) to utilities? Utilities may be concerned with exhausting low-hanging fruit, looking for tools to more comprehensively address the needs of large energy users While many administrators are already providing services to large energy users, these services may not be comprehensive or sustained SEM provides a structure and systematic framework for managing energy How are ISO and Superior Energy Performance (SEP) related? ISO and SEP are standardized and certifiable programs for SEM The ISO energy management standard is an international framework for large energy users to manage energy SEP is an certification program providing a transparent, globally accepted system for verifying energy performance improvements and management practices 4

5 SEP Benefits to Utilities SEP can deliver deeper, more sustained energy savings, especially for large customers already receiving program services Utilities can expect cost effective operational and capital savings SEP is based on facility-approved 3 rd party verification Contributes to customer s SEP certification (and recognition) Facilities use the results to prove impact to management Utilities also do 3 rd party verification so potential synergy exists Many facilities don t understand utility EM&V (so potential bridge) Opportunities to improve relationships with high value customers 5
