CONTENTS 1) Brief Introduction of Putrajaya Perdana Berhad (PPB) 2) Impacts of construction on environment 3) Green Construction/Practices Waste Management Plan Erosion & Sedimentation Control Plan
Company Background Incorporated in 1998, Putrajaya Perdana Berhad is an investment holding company and is recognised as one of Malaysia s most innovative and reliable construction groups. It has successfully delivered several prominent award winning and large scale projects on a turnkey designand-build basis as well as pioneering energy efficiency in construction.
Principal Activities Construction Conventional Design & Build Design, Finance & Build Project Management Property Development EE & Sustainable Development Toll Concessionaire Mission To be a RESPONSIBLE premier builder in providing INNOVATIVE & SUSTAINABLE integrated services in construction, development and concessionaire businesses through EXCELLENCE.
PPB s Green Efforts We have always held this belief that putting a stop to global warming and climate change is just as important as ensuring a healthy bottom line. In the with this, we have since 2002, made a commitment to ensure energy efficiency, and now, green in our projects.

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY High Consumption of Natural Resource Buildings are responsible for half of our water consumption, about one third of landfill waste and one quarter of all raw materials used in the economy High Consumption of Natural Resource Environmental Pollution Generation of Waste The industry is responsible for around 4% of particulate emissions, more water pollution incidents than any other industry, and thousands of noise complaints every year
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Water Pollution Health Risks Effects to Clean Water Supply Dying Water Habitat Foul Odour Flash Flood Sources of water pollution on building sites: diesel and oil; paint, solvents, cleaners and other harmful chemicals; and construction debris and dirt When land is cleared it causes soil erosion that leads to siltbearing run-off and sediment pollution Water Pollution
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Noise Pollution Health Risks Effects to Eco system Increased Communication Noises Noise Pollution The industry generates noises, mainly from vehicles, heavy equipment and machinery Leads to hearing loss, high blood pressure, sleep disturbance and extreme stress
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Air Pollution Health Risks Cause of Accidents Visibility-Led Problems Diminished Human Comfort Causes: land clearing, operation of diesel engines, demolition, burning, and working with toxic materials Construction dust is classified as PM10 - particulate matter less than 10 microns in diameter, invisible to the naked eye PM10 penetrate deeply into the lungs and cause a wide range of health problems including respiratory illness, asthma, bronchitis and cancer
Challenges of construction of Green Buildings Need informed construction staff & sub-contractors, consistent work practices & clear goals by training & education on green awareness. How can it be done? We need to deal with resistance to change of construction people Need to address the newer & more diversified technologies Green Features: - Daylighting - EE lighting + task lights - EE office equipment - Floor slab cooling - EE ventilation - Controls & Sensors - Low-e glazing - Insulation - Air tightness - Low VOC materials - Water efficiency fittings - Rainwater harvesting - Grey water recycling - Green Roof - Solar PV
Challenges of construction of Green Buildings It can be difficult to get qualifying material locally Sustainable content (recycled or certified) Recycled content Controlling environmental pollution by adopting eco-friendly construction practices Waste Management Plan Erosion & Sedimentation Control Plan All relevant requirements for the specific ratings of Green Buildings shall be complied: CONTRACTORS + GBI
