1 Purpose To ensure the consistent quality and safety of potable water used in the Coca-Cola system manufacturing facilities for potable water applications. Scope This document applies to the Coca-Cola system manufacturing facilities that cannot obtain a certificate of potability from a local regulatory agency for potable water. Potable water in this document refers to water that is used for the potable water applications identified in Water Quality Applications Matrix (BP-RQ-186). s Potable water must be processed in accordance with Treated Water for Product Manufacturing (BP-RQ-180), in order to be used as an ingredient in finished product. Potable water must meet local regulatory requirements for potability and the requirements in this document. Testing must be performed by: o o Table 1 testing Facility s laboratory Table 2 testing GQAS or other Company laboratory, or a third-party laboratory authorized by the business unit (BU). Monitoring s Verify compliance with local regulatory requirements for potability annually, or when the source of the incoming water changes. Meet the specifications in Table 2: Potable Water Annual Quality Specifications annually or when the source of the incoming water changes to verify compliance with this document for potability. If the potable water is the same water tested as the incoming water referenced in the Annual Treated and Packaged Treated Water Monitoring (BP-SP-184), the results from the incoming water testing can be used to demonstrate compliance with the specifications in Table 2. Follow the requirements, specifications and testing frequencies in Table 1: Potable Water Quality Specifications. The BU may approve modifications to the testing frequencies in Table 1 based on a process validation, process performance, historical data, a risk assessment, implementing validated in-line testing equipment, and/or local regulations. Revision: 16-May-2016 Page 1 of 6
2 Table 1: Potable Water Quality Specifications Parameter Method Specification Frequency SENSORY Sensory (Taste/Aroma/ Appearance) SM-PR-441 Normal in all respects: no off-taste or odor Weekly PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL ph SM-PR minimum Weekly Total Dissolved SM-PR mg/l maximum Weekly Solids (TDS) 2 Total Hardness SM-PR-460 Less than 100 mg/l as CaCO 3 Turbidity SM-PR NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit) maximum Weekly Weekly MICROBIOLOGICAL Coliforms SM-PR-681 Less than 1 cfu/100 ml Weekly E. coli SM-PR 681 STM 9222B STM 9223B EPA 1604 ISO Less than 1 cfu/100 ml When there is a positive result for coliforms Mesophilic Total Count (Total count) SM-PR-685 Less than 500 cfu/1 ml Weekly NOTES: 1. The BU can require increased testing frequencies as needed. 2. There is no health-based guideline or regulation for this parameter. The BU may approve a different specification based on a validation by the facility demonstrating no adverse effects of higher TDS concentrations. Revision: 16-May-2016 Page 2 of 6
3 3. A hardness limit of 100 mg/l as CaCO 3 is required to limit the potential for scaling in equipment and piping when using hot water. The facility may validate water with a higher hardness concentration with approval from the BU.
