Lutron Performance Shading Solutions Making a Difference in Commercial Applications
About Lutron Why Lutron? Lutron Electronics, headquartered in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, designs and manufactures energysaving light controls for both residential and commercial applications. Founded in 1961, Lutron manufactures more than 16,000 products which are sold in more than 100 countries around the world. We re the leaders in automation and innovation, and we currently hold over 2,000 patents. Our solutions can be used to control everything from a single light to every light, and a single shade to every shade, in a home or commercial building. Daylight control from Lutron At Lutron, motorized shades have been a part of our business for over 20 years. We innovated the world s first quiet, precise shade control systems which integrate reliably with light control systems and our sleek aesthetic keypads. The Lutron Difference We manufacture the drive, control, power supply, and finished shade product, in order to provide a complete solution. We offer the broadest selection of precision controllable shade styles and fabrics. We re the only manufacturer that offers seamless integration of shades and light controls, reducing cost and complexity. By integrating shade and light control, you can conveniently control all the light in a space from a single point, such as a keypad. We can install new light and shade control solutions in a space, or integrate our shades with existing light controls or other third-party automation systems, which is ideal for retrofit applications.

Why choose Lutron automated shades? When it comes to daylight control, our shading solutions stand out among the rest. Here s why. Benefits Save energy with dynamic fenestration management Our solutions effectively manage daylight, so you can design a space that lets in plenty of natural light, yet blocks heat and glare when needed, while consistently saving energy and improving building efficiency. In fact, automated shades can contribute significantly to a building s energy efficiency. A Lutron commissioned automated shade simulation conducted by Purdue University demonstrated perimeter private offices with daylight harvesting can further reduce lighting energy usage by 65% or more through the use of automated shades.** Hyperion solar-adaptive shading A key component for providing effective daylight management is Lutron Hyperion solar-adaptive shading. This automated shading system adjusts our Sivoia QS roller shades throughout the day based on the sun s position. Hyperion enhances the energy-saving potential of daylight harvesting systems, which use daylight sensors and dimmable fixtures to set and automatically maintain the ideal light level. It can also lower the load on a building s HVAC system to reduce energy consumption even more. Hyperion functions as a stand-alone system or as a key feature of the Quantum Total Light ManagementTM system. (For more information on Quantum, please visit 2 Lutron ** Simulated savings compared to applications where shades are closed, as shades are not often moved. Both the closed and automated shade simulations assumed fabrics with a transmittance of 15% or less for glare control. Savings would be less for fabrics with higher transmittances. Requires a daylight harvesting system.
Reduce daytime lighting energy by 65% or more through the use of automated shades. Sunny day shades lower Cloudy day shades rise Shadows shades rise Radio WindowTM sensor This small, wireless sensor is a new addition to the Quantum Total Light Management system. It works with Hyperion to maximize views and available daylight by overriding Hyperion and keeping shades open when there are cloudy conditions or shadows from neighboring buildings. It also provides brightness override and closes shades to limit glare. Lutron Experience Center Washington, DC Lutron 3
Daylight autonomy Automated shades maximize the amount of daylight entering a space when you don t need electric light. Daylight autonomy is the percentage of daytime hours that a significant amount of useful daylight is present in a space. Having a high daylight autonomy can reduce lighting energy usage, as shown in the chart below.** Benefits You can increase daylight autonomy by combining Sivoia QS shades, Hyperion, and the Radio WindowTM sensor. Utilizing these solutions together significantly increases energy savings in a space, while mitigating glare and improving employee productivity, which helps increase revenue. (In order to truly eliminate glare, consider fabrics with a transmittance value of 10% or less.) Lighting Energy Use (kwh/ft 2 /yr) Lighting Annual Energy Usage AVG Savings = 1.6 kwh/ft²/yr [83%] 0 South North West Manual Automated When it comes to daylight autonomy, automated shades provide the following benefits over manual shades: Automated shades enhance the useful daylight zone (the area inside a space illuminated by daylight). Manual shade applications can extend the useful daylight zone about 10 feet inside the perimeter of a space, while automated shades can extend that zone to 20 feet. Automated shades allow for a higher daylight autonomy, since manual shades are rarely adjusted. 4 Lutron ** Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. worked with Purdue University to analyze the benefits and savings potential of Lutron s Hyperion automated shading systems. The results showed the impact of how automated shades significantly reduce annual lighting energy usage. Savings are based on energy simulation of a perimeter private office with a lighting power density of 0.9 W/ft², a standard clear double pane glass, and a shade fabric with 5% transmittance and a 76% reflectance. Values shown are the average of three window to wall ratios: 20%, 40%, and 60%. Daylight harvesting system required.

Meets codes and standards Benefits Our shades reduce lighting loads through daylight harvesting, exceeding requirements for building and energy codes. They also help meet ASHRAE requirements as well as contribute toward LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) new construction points. Hyperion solar-adaptive automated shades comply with the requirements for two sections of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning) Standard for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings: Chapter 7/Energy Efficiency Section Permanent Objects Chapter 8/Indoor Environmental Air Quality Section Office Space Personal control options We offer personal control options, such as wireless remotes, wall-mounted keypads, PC-based controls, as well as apps for mobile devices, so occupants can adjust light levels in their space regardless of automated system settings. 6 Lutron
Access to a view in the workplace provides: 25%increase in memory function and mental recall 12% increase in mood and productivity Improves occupant productivity and comfort Glare from windows reduces productivity up to 25%, while access to a view has been shown to increase mood, increase productivity up to 12%, as well as increase memory function and mental recall up to 25%.** Lowering automated shades minimizes glare and can even maintain the view (with solar screen fabrics), creating a better work environment. Our shades seamless movement allows occupants to continue working, which they wouldn t be able to do if they had to adjust shades manually. Plus, our shades move smoothly and quietly, thanks to our ultra-quiet electronic drive which eliminates another potential distraction. ** Heschong Mahone Group, Inc., Windows and Offices: A study of office worker performance and the indoor environment. 12 How the components connect together Components The QP4 hub contains a Quantum processor for Hyperion control and a shade power panel to power up to 10 Sivoia QS shades. All wired devices connect to the QP4 hub via the QS link, a Class 2 low voltage, topology-free communication link. An EcoSystem Energi Savr NodeTM can be wired in via the QS link to provide control of up to 128 digitally addressable ballasts or LED drivers. Hyperion controls Sivoia QS shades, adjusting them based on the projected depth of daylight penetration in a given space. All wireless sensors communicate via QS Sensor Module (QSM). The Radio WindowTM sensor overrides Hyperion by raising shades upon detecting shadows or lowering them during bright, potential glare conditions. The daylight sensor communicates with digitally addressable ballasts to dim or raise light levels automatically based on available daylight in a space. You can use the seetouch QS keypad to manually override all shades and lights. Key Sivoia QS shades seetouch QS keypad Radio Window sensor Radio Powr SavrTM wireless daylight sensor QP4 hub 10 Lutron
