2 RESEARCH GROUP IN APPLIED GEOMECHANICS GIGA Director: Guillermo Alzate Espinosa Research group that provides modern, simulation, production and stimulation tools for conventional and non-conventional oil reservoirs. Working lines : geomechanical of heavy oil reservoirs, in-situ stress determination and mechanical earth model (MEM) construction, Sand production: prediction, quantification, management and phenomena associated modeling, geomechanical in thermal recovery, hydraulic fracturing in heavy oil reservoirs, numerical analysis of production processes coupled with geomechanics, subsidence and compaction analysis, stressstrain constitutive models in heavy oil reservoirs, caprock integrity, wellbore stability, conventional reservoir geomechanics, etc. Interdisciplinary workteam, formed by a bachelor, master, doctorate students and proffesors in petroleum engineering. 2

4 Objective: 7th INTERNATIONAL GEOMECHANICS SYMPOSIUM To promote an academic venue about actual geomechanic challenges in hydrocarbon exploitation and production, gathering a group of national and international specialists and representatives of main oil Colombian companies, who will analyze geomechanical application in exploration, characterization and exploitation of heavy oil reservoirs and the most pressing academic and technological issues that must be resolved about this topic. 4
