1 2016 progress report «Promote access to sustainable energy for all»
2 WHO WE ARE Twenty per cent of the world s population does not have access to electricity, more than one in every four people in Europe faces energy poverty and nearly 3 billion people do not have access to clean and safe cooking solutions. Access to energy, an essential service, is therefore at the heart of the fight against poverty, climate change and a key driver to reach sustainable growth. For 25 years, ENGIE has been actively working in various ways to provide isolated and poor communities with sustainable energy. Firstly through its staff s involvement in the Group s NGOs, by providing support through our solidarity programs after natural disasters and eventually through direct investments in innovative committed start-ups promoting energy access. ENGIE Rassembleurs d Energies, is ENGIE s corporate impact venture fund, which invests in profitable, local enterprises providing B to C, sustainable and relevant energy access solutions to poor and remote populations. In April 2016, ENGIE reinforced its fund, raising its endowment from 10 million to 50 million. ENGIE Rassembleurs d'energies uses the following multi-criteria evaluation tool to select its companies and to measure their impact over time : The mission of ENGIE Rassembleurs d Energies fits within ENGIE s objective to provide 20 million people around the world with access to sustainable, decentralized energy by 2020.
3 ACHIEVED INVESTMENTS By the end of 2016, 5 years after its creation, ENGIE Rassembleurs d Energies, has achieved 18 investments in enterprises active on 4 continents: Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia and over more than 15 countries. These businesses cover a wide scope of activities meeting the challenge of energy access and energy scarcity, ranging from energy efficiency for social housing in Europe, to solar power through solar home systems or micro grid or to clean cooking solutions in emerging countries. ENGIE Rassembleurs d Energies has invested so far over 16 million, of which 8 million were deployed in Average invested amount : 800K Targeted duration of the investment : 7 years Minority stake (<40%) Board membership Active support to the enterprise throughout the duration of the investment Online application:
4 OUR IMPACT Our first concern is to generate a social and environmental impact while reaching enough financial return to be able to re-deploy it on other projects. IMPACT IN FIGURES beneficiaries of clean electricity employees tons of CO 2 displaced Number of beneficiaries' evolution 0.89M 0.25M 1.2M 1 ENGIE Rassembleurs d Energies impact is worked out after figures reported by the enterprises Q End 2015 End 2016 The capital invested is funded both by ENGIE group and by ENGIE s employees dedicated saving s vehicle. Indeed, through the dedicated FCPE mutual investment fund, close to 10,000 Group employees contributed to the financing of the fund while investing part of their savings in line with their professional commitment and field of action. Moreover the projects have enabled many synergies within ENGIE, either through the commitment of its employees or through the involvement of its subsidiaries on different markets. ENGIE Rassembleurs d Energies fits in ENGIE s environmental and social policy as an actor committed to sustainable energy access for all while addressing the challenge of energy transition heralded by the Group.
