1 Freshmen Mentorship Program Program Details BRIEF OVERVIEW: The Monarch 2 Monarch mentoring program will grant freshmen students the opportunity to receive additional assistance while transitioning into college by being assigned an upperclassman mentor. The purpose of this program is to create peer-to-peer relationships among freshmen students and upperclassmen so freshmen are able to feel more comfortable being in their new monarch territory. This will be a voluntary program for both those who wish to become a mentor and those who wish to get mentored. MENTOR ROLES/REQUIREMENTS: Mentors: This will be open to sophomore, junior, and senior students at Old Dominion University. They will be responsible for building a healthy relationship with their assigned freshmen student. This can be done by spending time with the student, consistently communicating with the freshmen students, serving as their confidante, providing assistance whenever needed, and etc. Mentors will be required to: -Have a minimum of a 2.3 grade point average on a 4.0 grading scale -Serve as a mentor for the entire academic year -Complete five (5) hours per month with their assigned mentee (twenty (20) hours total per semester) -Attend four (4) ODU events per semester (one event per month), one of which MUST be a CSCE service project/event -Complete an evaluation at the end of the year -Be present at Preview dates to run table (optional) -Attend trainings & Week of Welcome
2 Lead Mentors: This will be open to ONLY junior and senior students at Old Dominion University. Lead Mentors will be assigned a group of mentors (depending on the number of mentors/mentees we have). They will serve as the facilitator and spokesperson for their group of mentors. Lead Mentors will be required to: -Have a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 grading scale -Serve as a Lead Mentor for the entire academic year -Hold mentors accountable for completing the required mentor hours -Collect and bring mentor logs to the Center on the given date -Communicate pertinent information from the Center to the mentors -Assist in the preparation of one (1) CSCE service event -Complete an evaluation at the end of the year -Be present at Preview dates to run table (optional) -Attend trainings & Week of Welcome ***Note: Lead mentors have the option of being both a mentor and lead mentor***
