1 Assistant Director & Travel Coordinator Application I. MSC FLI s Mission Statement MSC Freshman Leadership International is a freshman organization that presents international outreach and service programs that promote cultural understanding and international awareness among students at Texas A&M University. II. General Information Assistant Director/Travel Coordinator Applications are due on Tuesday, April 11th th by 5 P.M. They may be turned in at the MSC Student Programs Office (SPO) within the MSC at the front desk. Every applicant is required to interview. When your application has been received, you will be contacted to set up an interview time and location. Interviews will be held during the following week. Alternate dates can be arranged if necessary. The dress will be business casual. All details provided on this application may be subject to change. This includes, but is not limited to, mandatory dates of attendance and position responsibilities. III. BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES Staff Dues: $75 (Due in September/October) Be present, prompt, and participative for all meetings Conduct yourself in a professional and enthusiastic manner when interacting with freshmen Bring an enthusiasm to any MSC FLI associated work, event, or program Execute programs in an efficient and effective manner Relay pertinent information from the Executive Team to freshmen Create agendas for, plan, and run freshmen sub-committee meetings o Relay aforementioned agenda to the Chair and your respective Executive Director Attend Weekly General Committee Meetings (Wednesdays 7:00 8:00 P.M.) Attend Weekly General Staff Meetings (Tuesdays 7:00 8:00 P.M.) o To actively participate in discussion of the status of the committee as a whole and in staff development activities Take part in the freshmen recruitment process Assist in any delegated tasks by the chair, fellow staff, or even freshmen Attend Staff Reveal (TBD) Attend Summer Staff Retreat (Summer, TBD) o To begin and progress on recruitment related activities o To develop necessary leadership and academic skills to deal with the upcoming year of MSC FLI o To be familiarized with the rest of staff Attend Recruitment Retreat (Summer, TBD) o To finalize recruitment, application, and interview processes o To review plans for both the committee and your specific subcommittee in an effort to prepare the organization for its new members Attend Staff Transitions/Last Staff Meeting (TBD) or Staff Workshop (TBD) o Be introduced to the role and basic procedures of your new position o Be introduced to MSC FLI 2021 Attend Freshmen Deliberations to decide on freshmen applicants for MSC FLI 2021

THE APPLICATION Application Checklist All application materials should be turned in together in one manila envelope with your name (first and last), the organization (MSC FLI), and the position sought (Chair/Executive) located on the front. Materials that comprise one complete copy of the application should be paper clipped together. Please make sure the necessary copies of the application are included in your application packet. Copies Needed (In Order) Application Materials 1 Official MSC Cover Page 2 Applicant Information Page 2 Resume (INCLUDE GPA) 2 Goals Statement 2 Short Answer/Free Response 2 Self-Appraisal Two Performance Appraisals (sealed and signed in their own standard 1 size envelopes) 1. Official MSC Cover Page This application must have an official cover page attached. To generate a cover page, go online to and follow the instructions. Print and sign the cover sheet and attach it to the front of your application packet. 2. Applicant Information Page (Provided In This Application Page Five) This page will collect the logistical information pertaining to your application. 3. Resume Provide a resume detailing the experiences you have had which prepare you for the position you are seeking. Be sure to include all university relevant information, significant activities which demonstrate leadership and community involvement, specific duties performed, length in office, and awards or recognitions (should be limited to one page). 4. Goals Statement (3 Page Limit) Please outline at least one goal which you hope to accomplish in your desired position for each of the following areas, listed under the position that is being sought after: Assistant Director 1. MSC FLI (The Committee at Large) 2. One of Your Preferred Subcommittees 3. Recruitment Strategy OR A Personal Development Goal Travel Coordinator 1. MSC FLI (The Committee at Large) 2. Costa Rica International Service Trip 3. Personal Development Goal Explain how each goal fits into the strategic plan of MSC FLI and how you plan to accomplish these goals. (Format: list the goals and elaborate with bullets underneath each one.) *Note: If applying for Assistant Director AND Travel Coordinator, you must outline Goals 1 and 2 for both positions, but omit goal number three. (i.e. A goal for MSC FLI, a Subcommittee, and Costa Rica)

3 5. Short Answer/Free Response (3 page limit) Please answer the following on a separate, attached, and typewritten document. Assistant Director: 1. As a committee member of MSC FLI (or otherwise) this past year, what areas do you think MSC FLI needs to improve upon? What would you do, or what have you done to make improvements to these areas? 2. What do you think your most important role as an assistant director would be? Describe how you envision your relationship with the your Exec, fellow ADs, and the freshmen. 3. Your subco is putting on a program and you are having serious trouble getting bannering and tabling shifts filled. How would you ensure the freshmen in your subco fill these shifts? How would you ensure that freshmen in other subcos signed up for these shifts? 4. Describe a time when you experienced stress or adversity. How did you respond to this situation? 5. What will your time commitments be for the next year (May 2015 to May 2016)? What are your priorities between these time commitments (Rank them)? 6. Will you be absent at any time throughout this next year (May 2015 to May 2016)? Please include all vacations, travels abroad, etc Travel Coordinator 1. As a committee member of MSC FLI (or otherwise) this past year, what areas do you think MSC FLI needs to improve upon? What would you do, or what have you done to make improvements to these areas? 2. Name your unique interests and passions. How will these interests and passions translate to the Costa Rica trip? 3. Describe a time when you experienced stress or adversity. How did you respond to this situation? 4. Briefly discuss your vision for the Costa Rica International Service Trip. 5. What will your time commitments be for the next year (May 2015 to May 2016)? What are your priorities between these time commitments (Rank them)? 6. Will you be absent at any time throughout this next year (May 2015 to May 2016)? Please include all vacations, travels abroad, etc 6. Self-Appraisal Please fill out the attached personal appraisal titled Self-Appraisal. Try to be objective when assessing your personal skills and abilities. 7. Performance Appraisal The appraisal should be completed by someone who has interacted with you in a setting where your leadership abilities were able to be observed. One performance appraisal should be completed by a current member of MSC FLI Staff 2021, Texas A&M Faculty, or MSC Advisor. Only two appraisals are necessary. You can file three or more appraisals if you feel as if it would help your application. It is a suggestion to have at least one appraisal from a staff member of your subcommittee and an individual outside of your subcommittee that fulfills the appraiser criteria.

As a part of the application process, the applicant is required to turn in performance appraisals that have been completed by someone who has worked closely with the applicant and is knowledgeable of the skills and abilities that (s)he possesses. This applicant has requested that you complete one of their appraisals. Performance appraisals are an integral part of the application process because they allow the selection committee to see how the applicant s skills and abilities are viewed and evaluated by others. With the information and insight you provide, you will enable us to better draw conclusions as to the applicant s future ability to be a leader within MSC FLI. The appraisal will ask you to explain your relationship with the applicant, rate him/her on several characteristics that our organization looks for in our staff, and give us some examples of skills and abilities that you have observed in the applicant. Upon completion of this appraisal, please place it into an envelope, seal it, and sign over the seal of the envelope.
