They re looking for your thinking methods, the type of questions you ask, and if you solved if effectively. Employee Performance o Engineers assume 100% accountability for their code. Their code is evaluated by the passing of multiple tests from your peers. You re also evaluated by how well you work in a group.
35 Job Security There are many engineers graduating every year. These engineers who are younger, smarter, and even more affordable have the power to replace an engineer whom haven t excelled, or shown any signs of improvement. It s easy to replace an engineer, that s why it should be in your best interest to have a retirement plan. As an engineer become more senior, the company will expect you to take on more leadership roles, and as you take on those roles your position will then become more challenging to be reached by those younger engineers. This is why it s best to have a decent retirement plan. from job growth projected to be up to 22% 2nd in number of jobs in the industry

39 Employee Reviews Microsoft: Pros o Cons o Microsoft provides very compelling salary and benefits. It can be very enjoyable if you find the right team. I have seen very talented people who are very enjoyable to work with. But at the same time it is very common that you find yourself in a team that they are not very professional. The most valuable aspect of working at Microsoft for me is access to many smart people in all different fields. You can get an expert opinion by just sending an /im to the right person. Getting promoted can be challenging and at times slow. Often I see people leave the company and they come back after couple of years and they get hired at much higher level with better compensation very different from the people who kept working in the company for that period of time continuously. Besides since Microsoft is super huge, sometimes great ideas dies in management ladder.
40 Employee Reviews Apple: Pros o Cons o Working at Apple means that the things you work on get into the hands of hundreds of millions of people, literally. It's a lot of pressure to get things right and drives one to do the best work of their lives. 2+ years later I'm still blown away by the talent and creativity of people I work with. It's a lot of work, teams are usually strapped for resources and under pressure to deliver on strict timelines leading to high stress and long hours at certain times during the year.
41 Employee Reviews Cisco Systems: Pros o Cons o The company truly believes on promoting within and as an employee you are encouraged to grow your career within the organization and learn new skills by taking different positions. Benefits are excellent. Cisco is the industry leader for networking and now cloud. It is sometimes easy to forget that on the daily grind but you are working for the company that everyone looks to for network and infrastructure standards. Culture within the business units managing product lines give you a lot of freedom to be innovative and creative in your approach to your role. In most cases you are given a fair amount of autonomy and control over how you do your job provided that it aligns with the strategic objectives. Benefits, 401k match, RSUs and ESPP are amazing. And while the salaries aren't the top of the industry, they are above market and pretty competitive. If you don't like where you are in Cisco or what you are working on, give it 6 months because you will be reorg'd. While it is sometimes necessary to realign the company to meet competitive threats or market demands, reorganizing the company once a year is excessive and tends to create a distrusting environment for the rank and file which makes being a leader in the organize challenging. There is a loss of momentum and motivation that occurs a few months before and a few months after reorgs so this leaves the company being effective at delivery and execution only about 70% of the time.
