2 Our Networks in Action Many of our associates are involved in at least one of our five associate networks: Asian Network African-American Network Hispanic Network GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) Network Women s Network (a subset of this network is our Executive Women s Network) These five networks were developed with common goals of recruiting, retaining and developing associates while supporting our community efforts. Our associate networks are a longstanding component of the Capital One culture, providing professional development, networking and volunteer opportunities to their membership. They are integral to shaping and forging new business development and recruiting relationships. These employee-driven, local networks include associates at all levels and areas of the company. Network support for new hires New hires have the option to join one of our five associate networks. As a new hire, the networks pair new associates with a mentor/buddy to help learn the ropes at Capital One. Network events for all associates Capital One features a number of opportunities for associates to learn about diversity. Each of the five associate networks uses their federally designated heritage month as an opportunity to host programs that showcase traditions, language, and culture. At Capital One, we recognize that diversity comes in many forms. We also celebrate heritage months focused on generational differences and disability awareness. These forums feature internal and external presenters and experiential learning activities to broaden participants understanding of Capital One s diversity strategy. Recent external accolades validate our approach: Capital One was named to DiversityInc s 2009 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list. The magazine and media company, whose mission is to bring education and clarity to the business benefits of diversity, recently announced the awards, naming Capital One No. 25.
