1 Job Advertisement Statistics Data File: Supporting Documentation BACKGROUND INFORMATION The Public Service Resourcing System (PSRS) is the national recruitment system behind the federal government's primary job portal ( The PSRS manages selection processes for job opportunities in the public service. Although information about external selection processes (job opportunities open to the general public) have been available since April 1, 2006, internal selection processes (job opportunities open to public servants) were only incorporated in the PSRS application starting on April 1, Before that, internal selection processes were managed by the Publiservice application. Job advertisement statistics dataset The job advertisement data available on the open data portal provides statistics on job advertisements and the job seekers who applied to selection processes published on the job portal starting in April 1, Period covered: This release contains data for two fiscal years ( and ). Update frequency: This dataset will be updated on a quarterly basis. The dataset will be completely overwritten with the most up-to-date information, since the advertisement status may change over time. In fact, the status will change from closed to archived once the process has not been updated or searched for over 1 year. Inventory advertisement statistics Inventory advertisements are designed to create large pools of pre-qualified job seekers. Managers will then conduct searches specific to the job they intend to staff, resulting in a list of candidates meeting the search criteria. The methodology to calculate the number of inventory advertisements and applications has been modified in order to increase reporting accuracy. Usually, regular job and inventory advertisements are reported once the advertisement closes. Since inventories may remain open for many years, inventory advertisements are now reported in each fiscal year where at least one application was received, instead of reporting these counts in the fiscal year when the inventory closed. Reporting for regular job advertisements remains unchanged. It is important to note that any statistics concerning inventories may not reconcile with previously published data by the Public Service Commission due to this change in methodology. 2 Alternate advertisement statistics Alternate advertisements are selection processes where the advertisement is published on the job portal, but job seekers are redirected to the organization s own online recruitment tool, independent from the PSRS, to submit their application. It is important to note that for these specific advertisements, statistics on applications submitted are not available. GLOSSARY Attribute Name fiscal_year reference_number selection_number adv_name_e adv_name_f open_date close_date open_duration department_code applied_title_e applied_title_f Fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) derived from the closing date of the advertisement Inventories may remain open for several years, therefore, the fiscal year shown for inventories is the fiscal year within which at least one application is made Number assigned to a selection process when an advertisement is created. The reference number is generated by the system Selection process number entered by the human resources advisor Name of the job opportunity that appears on the poster for the selection process, normally the title of the position being advertised (English) Name of the job opportunity that appears on the poster for the selection process, normally the title of the position being advertised (French) Date on which applicants can begin to view an advertisement and submit an application Date beyond which applicants are no longer allowed to submit an application Number of calendar days between the opening and closing dates of an advertisement Acronym of the organization derived based on the first 3 characters of the reference_number Name of the federal organization responsible for the advertisement Some organizations advertise on behalf of other ones (English) Name of the federal organization responsible for the advertisement Public Service Commission of Canada 2

For each one identified, the applicant must self-evaluate, based on a predetermined scale of experience level. The questionnaire is used in the screening process to eliminate applicants who do not meet minimum requirements for the position A value of 1 indicates that a detailed experience questionnaire was set for this advertisement When additional clarification is required, this box is added to an experience statement on the questionnaire. The purpose is to obtain more information or clarification about what has been stated by the applicant on a particular experience A value of 1 indicates that a screening tool using Yes/No questions was set for this advertisement screening_question Screening questions require applicants to provide a Yes or No answer to the questions formulated by the human resources administrator.
