Olathe s Salary Schedule Understanding the Salary Schedule
The Olathe schedule is like others in some ways, but has one innovation. MAX-16 MAX-15 MAX-14 MAX M+24 (2-4) $52,508 (5-17) $53,296 (18-19) $54,255 (NA) $54,960
Unlike a traditional 2-D schedule, Olathe has three components. MAX-16 MAX-15 MAX-14 MAX M+24 (2-4) $52,508 (5-17) $53,296 (18-19) $54,255 (NA) $54,960 Each cell has three parts: 1. The Column indicator
Unlike a traditional 2-D schedule, Olathe has three components. MAX-16 MAX-15 MAX-14 MAX M+24 (2-4) $52,508 (5-17) $53,296 (18-19) $54,255 (NA) $54,960 Each cell has three parts: 1. The Column indicator 2. The Step or Level indicator
The Step or Level indicator 3. The Placement Guide (parentheses) The placement guide establishes the experience range assigned to cells when the schedule was created. Because some cells were only placeholders, they contain NA. They will be used as people move down the schedule.
Three ways to improve salary As with other schedules, Olathe has three basic ways of improving salary on the table. These are negotiated annually in Professional Council. Step down: each step down on the salary schedule represents an increase in pay. Column movement: each column, left to right, represents an increase in pay. Base increase: the value of each cell can be increased as well, representing an overall improvement in the schedule.
In tough times Recently, the district has been able to improve salaries in only TWO of the THREE ways: For example, in , professional staff could move across (column) and down (step). However, there wasn t sufficient funding to increase the value of each cell. The result? While almost everyone got a raise, there was a problem Anyone frozen at the end of a column (or off table ) couldn t benefit from a step down. Those staff who moved across received a larger raise than others.
Now, in After two years of movement across (column) and down (step), it was time to work on the base salary in each cell. However, state finances continue to make it necessary to work on only two of the three means of increasing compensation. For 2013, column movement is recognized, but step movement is replaced by enhancements of the base salary. These enhancements affect all educators.
What that means to you MAX- 16 MAX- 15 MAX- 14 MAX M+24 M+24 (2-4) (3-5) $52,508 $53,269 (5-17) (6-18) $53,296 $54,068 (18-19) (19-20) $54,255 $55,042 (NA) (NA) $54,960 $55,757 Note that the value of each cell increases by 1.45%. Note also that the placement guides change to reflect the experience levels of those assigned to the sell. Each person in the cell has one more year of experience, so the low and the high end of the range increase by one. The result is a new schedule with new placement guides and raises generated by the increase in each cell s value.
Why do we have placement guides? The Olathe salary schedule was collapsed in , allowing staff members to advance more quickly to the higher salaries. However, care had to be taken to ensure people were treated equitably then and in the future. New hires must be brought onto the schedule, but not be allowed to be brought in above current employees with the same education and level of experience. Similarly, existing employees who move laterally (columns) must be placed into a cell occupied by peers who have the same degree+hours and the same experience range.
Column movement using the salary placement guides MAX-16 MAX-15 MAX-14 MAX M+24 M+36 (3-5) (3-5) $53,269 $55,826 (6-18) (6-20) $54,068 $56,664 (19-20) (NA) $55,042 $57,684 (NA) (NA) $55,757 $58,443 This chart represents the M+24 and M+36 columns for Note the changes in the parenthetical numbers, the placement guides as you move from column to column. Max-16 and Max -15 remain the same, but Max-15 and Max- 14 differ in placement guides from one column to the next.
Column movement using the salary placement guides MAX-16 MAX-15 MAX-14 MAX M+24 M+36 (3-5) (3-5) $53,269 $55,826 (6-18) (6-20) $54,068 $56,664 (19-20) (NA) $55,042 $57,684 (NA) (NA) $55,757 $58,443 This chart shows changes resulting from a representative column move. When a person starting at Max-16 moves one column, he/she goes directly across to the next cell of the table. The placement guides indicate this is a correct movement. However, if a person moves columns at Max- 14, the cell directly across is NA. He/she would move to Max-15, where the placement guides
What about off schedule salaries? Due to historical reasons that predate the current salary schedule, some staff members have salaries which lie off schedule. These employees are carefully considered as the Council reviews professional salaries. However, the conditions for movement within the schedule itself don t apply to staff who are off schedule. For , off-schedule staff and staff who have been at the MAX level prior to receive stipends. Remember that there are three ways to improve compensation on a schedule. In the years with no cell increase, these people would have received no raise. The stipends were assigned to provide salary improvement. Now that the base is being improved, the stipends are not necessary to provide some salary movement.
Questions It is our hope that this short review helps you read and understand the Olathe professional salary schedule. Don t forget you have other resources for understanding your pay: Employee online shows you your pay stub. HR and Employee Services staff will help you understand your pay.
