These single-use indicators give you an accurate, nonreversible record of heat exposure and approximate duration of the exposure. Some temperature sensitive products must never be exposed to temperatures below freezing. The ColdMark2 Freeze Indicator is a single-use tool that tells you if your product has been exposed to freezing conditions. Once activated and the temperature dips below the temperature threshold, the large circular window will turn red. Each three liter container is pre-filled with 30mL of the preservative which will be refrigerated and mixed throughout the duration of patient collection. Upon completion of the collection cycle, laboratory procedures will specify what the patient will use as a pouroff container in order to retrieve a representative sample of the 24 hour collection at the laboratory for testing. As indicated on the provided container instructions, the patient or acting physician will not send the entire container to the laboratory. Typically, a 90mL specimen container will be provided by the laboratory in addition to these pre-filled 24 hour containers to ensure the pour-off process is acknowledged by the patient or acting physician. It is also recommended that the laboratory provide a basic urine collection cup with the pre-filled containers for the collection process. The patient is encouraged to void into a separate cup (beaker style collection with pour spout see on page 20) and pour the contents into the 24 hour collection container during the collection process. It is not recommended that the patient void directly into the 24 hour collection container due to the preservative acid content inside the container. 16

17 C y t o l o g y Fisherbrand Cervical Specimen Collection Devices for Liquid Based Cytology and Conventional Specimen Collection Fisherbrand Cervex-Brush Combi The Cervex-Brush Combi is a new patented, high tech product capable of delivering higher cellular yield of endocervical cells than the traditional Cervex-Brush. With proper use of the Cervex-Brush Combi, practitioners will only have to rotate the brush two full turns. The device only differs from the Cervex-Brush in that the 9 longer middle hairs have been replaced by a complete endocervical sampler. This makes the device the ideal Pap smear collection instrument. Fisherbrand Cervex-Brush The 20 cm long Cervex-Brush is made of polyethylene and contains 57 semi-circular plastic hairs of various lengths. This device collects cells from the entire required sampling area of the cervix, therefore it is not necessary to use a spatula in conjunction with this product. The Cervex-Brush can be used for either the conventional Pap smear or in conjunction with monolayer prep processes. Fisherbrand EndoCervex-Brush The EndoCervex-Brush is a one-piece cytology brush designed to optimize cellular yield in Pap smear, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea testing. The EndoCervex-Brush provides 600 separate collection hairs for the simultaneous collection of cellular material. The stiff yet flexible brush head is made of polypropylene and has a protective tip to enhance the overall collection process and to reduce injury and bleeding. The brush head is detachable after collection. This device can be used for conventional Pap smear collection or in conjunction with liquid-based cytology processes. In summary, when there is minimal likelihood that pathogens are present in the specimen, shipping and marking the package as Exempt Human Specimen is the correct shipping classification. IATA regulations cite examples of many routine laboratory tests that can now be transported as Exempt Human Specimens. Examples of those tests are: blood or urine for cholesterol levels, hormone levels, prostate specific antigens (PSA), tests to monitor organ function (heart, liver, kidney), tests conducted for insurance or employment, pregnancy, biopsies for cancer, drug or alcohol presence testing.
