Ozzie 4.0 Die Zukunft ist ein Kind der Gegenwart (C.A. Tiedge) 2
Industrie 4.0 & CPS Industry 4.0 means the technical integration of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) in production and logicstics as well as the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) concept into industrial processes. This includes the resulting consequences for value creation, business models as well as related services and the organisation of work force. 6 Added Value Creation 6
Cyber Physical System with RFID Cyber Physical System (CPS) RFID Contains information about: Real (physical) Virtual (digital data) - Mechanics (CAD) - Electronics (CAE) - Safety, Security - Maintenance - Location, Identity - Status - Data at object and in database is continuously expanding over the life cycle. Product Design Procduction Process Logistics & Lifetime Re-Pair Re-Use Re-Cycling 7
Products: Elektronicsindustry Variation of ID methods - Read Only Product Life Cycle/ Value Chain: - Miniaturization - Increased Density strong segmentation 8
Transformation to PCB 4.0 Supply Chain Management Traceability 3.0 Conventional PCB without RFID tag function 4.0 Smart PCB with RFID tag function Anti-Counterfeit Add MAGICSTRAP and the PCB will become a full RFID Tag! 9

What is RFID??? Radio Frequency IDentification A batteryless RF technology (UHF@ Mhz) making objects smart (providing unique ID + some data) able to cover distances up to >5m similar to a barcode label/datamatrix, but much better: rewritable! works also without optical connection (e.g. through carton box, product housing) 12 12
What is RFID? Radio Frequency IDentification. Always a system consisting of 3 main elements Tag, RW&Antenna, Software A passive RFID tag is queried and it responds with it s ID and other data accordingly. Power and commands can be transferred with different frequencies (UHF [ MHz], HF [13.56MHz], LF [125 & 134.2kHz] leading to different properties of the system. Software RW Antenna Power & Commands Reader/Writer (RW) Serial Number (ID) / Data Tag Similar to a barcode label/datamatrix, but better: rewritable! works also without optical connection (e.g. through carton box) able to cover distances up to >5 10m Making objects smart: providing unique ID + some data/memory can be combined with sensor (e.g. Temperature, Humidity) No battery needed (energy harvesting) 13
UHF RFID: Scalable Communication Range Reader/Writer Output Power The communication range can be nicely fine tuned by the output power setting of the Reader/Writer... Antenna Characteristics...in combination with the selection of an antenna with appropriate characteristics. Controlled Communication Range from 1mm up to 5m
RFID Memory Segments (typ. example) Reserved Memory EPC Memory TID User Memory Access and Kill Password EPC Electronic Product Code Lock after Writing TID Tag Identifier (preprogrammed & locked) IC Manufacturer information, Unique serial number User data encoded (key needed) 64bit 256bit 96bit 2kbit 1515
How to put RFID on a PCB 1 Conventional Dipole Antenna MAGICSTRAP mounting position Dipole Antenna with wider area 2 PCB antenna with MAGICSTRAP 3 PCB ground MAGICSTRAP recognizes the PCB ground as a dipole antenna. 16
