2 RIIMPO334D Conduct Skid Steer Loader Operations Using Attachments Assessment Plan This document contains all details of how the assessment will be conducted and the resources required to complete the assessment. The task details, specific instructions to assessors and task checklists are available in the Final Practical Test Assessor Only document. Make sure all resources outlined within this plan are available before starting the final assessment. Assessment 1 Confirm Details of Skid Steer Loader Operations The learner is required to read all relevant documentation for planning out the task and making sure work activity meets site or project requirements for safety and quality. The assessor will need to make sure all resources, information and documents are available for the purposes of the assessment and determine that the learner knows where to look for them on the work site. The assessor needs to ensure that any policies and procedures used during the assessment are relevant to the mining industry and make a note of the purpose of any document used. 1 document displaying the components and functions of a skid steer loader. 1 set of task instructions for a mining skid steer loader task. 1 project document that identifies quality requirements (may be included with the work instructions or in a site plan). 1 copy of a policy or procedure relevant to mining, skid steer loader operations or site operations. 1 copy of emergency response instructions relevant to the work site. 3 Assessment 2 Inspect and Prepare the Work Area The learner is required to identify, report and manage hazards in the work area at a basic level, using predetermined control methods and techniques outlined in task instructions or safety documentation. At a minimum hazards that should be identified and managed during this assessment should include: Selection of Traffic control and site isolation. There should be enough space to allow a learner to walk around the work area to carry out the task of hazard identification. Environmental Considerations: Any environmental hazards or issues identified need to be managed as appropriate. All details of environmental protection measures implemented during the assessment need to be documented. Reporting of hazards needs to be demonstrated. This may be achieved through the use of a form (such as a Take-5 or equivalent) or verbally. Details of verbal reporting need to be documented by the assessor. Work instructions outlining control measures for common hazards related to the task. Personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant to the task including a minimum of: Hi-vis clothing. Safety helmet. Safety boots. Barricades and signage for traffic control and site isolation. Civil Force Training Assessment Plan Page 3

4 Assessment 3 Conduct Routine Checks The learner is required to select and inspect a skid steer loader. The assessor will need to provide the learner with the details of the task so they can select appropriate equipment for the job. All tasks should reflect common skid steer loader activities carried out in mining projects. There should be adequate space available to perform all operational checks including all movements of the vehicle and testing of attachments without disrupting other operations on site. Completion of a fault report. Completion of isolation of defective equipment in line with site safety requirements. Note: If no fault is identified the assessor needs to give the learner a scenario where defective, damaged or faulty equipment has been identified and ensure that they complete a fault report to reflect the details provided in the scenario. All tools and equipment need to be relevant to the task given to the learner. Space has been provided in the observations section of the assessment to note the details of any tools and equipment used. Skid steer loader. Tools and equipment relevant to the tasks. 1 set of task instructions for a mining skid steer loader task. Manufacturer s specifications or operator s manual for equipment (as required). 5 Assessment 4 Operate the Skid Steer Loader to Complete a Mining Industry Task The learner is required to operate the skid steer loader to complete a mining task that includes: Assessing ground conditions and materials. Calculating safe working loads. The selection and use of an appropriate attachment. Operating the skid steer loader efficiently and effectively to complete the work task. Working safely to complete the task and responding to issues as they arise. Checking the work against instructions, plans and specifications. Removing the attachment after the work is complete. The space needs to be large enough to allow the learner to carry out the work task well enough to satisfy the assessor that the learner can complete the work under realistic conditions and to industry expectations. The mining work task needs to reflect realistic work requirements and mine site projects. The dimensions, type and complexity of tasks needs to be consistent with jobs that a skid steer loader operator would be expected to work on. Mining Task to be Completed by the Learner: Must include a minimum of one (1) of the following on each occasion (assessments 4 and 5): Stripping/spreading topsoil and materials. Compacting. Backfilling Truck excavation. Loading vehicles. Cutting batters and benches. Loading materials. Rock breaking. Excavating. Site clean-up. Mixing materials. Skid steer loader. Skid steer loader attachments (select from the list): Multipurpose bucket. Auger Tiller/mixer. Asphalt cutter/saw. Forks. Chain digger. Rotary hoe. Concrete cutter/saw. Dozer blade. Power broom. Backhoe. Rake. Profiler. Hammer. 1 set of task instructions, plans or specifications that details the task requirements. Personnel to assist with the task where required. Site materials. 7 Assessment 6 Operate the Skid Steer Loader to Load, Carry and Place Materials The learner is required to operate the skid steer loader to shift a load, including: Checking the capacity of the skid steer loader. Positioning the skid steer loader. Shifting the load to another location. Working safely to complete the task and responding to issues as they arise. Coordinating and following directions from other personnel. The space needs to be large enough to allow the learner to safely transfer a load using the skid steer with enough accuracy to satisfy the assessor that the learner can complete the work under realistic conditions and to industry expectations. The task needs to reflect realistic work requirements and mining projects. The dimensions, type and complexity of tasks needs to be consistent with jobs that a skid steer operator would be expected to work on. Skid steer loader. 1 set of task instructions for using the skid steer to shift a load. Load of materials to be shifted. Communication equipment (radios or whistles). Manufacturer s information for the skid steer loader (capacity). Personnel to coordinate with or support the operation of the skid steer. Civil Force Training Assessment Plan Page 7

8 Assessment 7 Park and Shut Down the Skid Steer Loader The learner is required to park and shut down the skid steer loader. This includes: Parking in an appropriate location. Shutting down the skid steer loader in line with manufacturer s and site instructions. Safely exiting the skid steer loader. Carrying out routine post-operational checks. Reporting any faults or defects in line with site requirements. Defective equipment needs to be isolated appropriately and a fault report needs to be completed. There must be an appropriate place for the skid steer loader to be safely parked and shut down that will not impact on other equipment or operations in the area. Task or site-specific Requirements: Completion of a fault report. Completion of isolation of defective equipment in line with site or common mine site safety requirements. Note: If no fault is identified the assessor needs to give the learner a scenario where defective, damaged or faulty equipment has been identified and ensure that they complete a fault report to reflect the details provided in the scenario. 9 Assessment 8 Relocate the Skid Steer Loader The learner is required to prepare the skid steer loader for relocation. This includes 2 different techniques: Transporting the equipment on a trailer or float. Driving the skid steer loader between sites or locations. The assessor must ensure that all state requirements have been met before allowing a skid steer loader to be driven between worksites and record all details in the notes/comments section of the assessment. The skid steer loader must be properly cleaned before moving it between different locations in line with site procedures. Environmental Considerations: Cleaning needs to be done is a designated area that does not have a negative impact on the environment through the use and disposal of cleaning agents. The learner is required to load and unload the skid steer loader from a trailer or float. The assessor must ensure that the learner meets all safety requirements for loading, securing and unloading the equipment on/off the trailer. Skid steer loader. Cleaning equipment or products. Transport vehicle with float or trailer large enough for the skid steer loader. Tie down or securing equipment. Personnel to assist during the assessment. Civil Force Training Assessment Plan Page 9

10 Assessment 9 Carry Out Routine Maintenance and Housekeeping The learner is required to maintain the skid steer loader including: Cleaning. Minor maintenance. (The learner is not required to carry out specialised mechanic or diagnostic work.) Refuelling. Returning the skid steer loader to service. Processing maintenance records. The learner also needs to demonstrate how to clear the work area of any tools, equipment or materials that are no longer needed and complete any required paperwork or documentation. The task needs to reflect real world expectations taking into account mining project requirements and work sequences. All tasks must be carried out in line with site requirements and industry expectations or responsibilities of a skid steer loader operator. There must be an appropriate place for maintenance activities to be carried out that will not impact on other equipment or operations in the area. Environmental Considerations: Cleaning needs to be done in a designated area that does not have a negative impact on the environment through the use and disposal of cleaning agents. Skid steer loader. Cleaning equipment or product. Maintenance records or documents. Tools, equipment, parts and products for conducting maintenance. Refuelling equipment.
