22 Technical basics of RFID technology Radio frequency identification (RFID) enables contactless data exchange between an RFID data carrier and an RFID read/write device. For data transmission, the RFID writer/reader sets up an electromagnetic field which supplies the passive RFID data carrier with energy. This is necessary for data exchange.
