4 The SULO Facility Operating a state-of-the-art injection moulding plant, SULO Australia manufactures high quality, durable containers and provides access to a world of waste management expertise through the SULO Group. SULO Australia has been manufacturing wheelie bins at its Somersby production plant since it was built in December of 1996 and in just over 14 years, has manufactured in excess of 10 million bins. SULO Australia operates one of the most automated Mobile Garbage Bin (MGB) manufacturing facilities in the region and utilises the most innovative injection moulding equipment supported by reliable robots to ensure the wheelie bins are handled efficiently and with care, keeping product quality top of mind. Through continued investment in new injection moulds and preventative maintenance programs SULO MGB Australia ensures that the manufacturing facility runs at maximum efficiency with minimum down time. Manufacturing Process SULO is one of many companies that are known as Polymer Processors. The polymer processing industry in Australia and New Zealand is relatively small, by international standards, but is an extremely important part of the manufacturing industry. Polymer processors are manufacturers that take virgin raw materials and convert them into finished products for the consumer. SULO MGB Australia has the ability to process both virgin and recycled material into a range of waste and recycling containers. The machinery that SULO Australia uses to convert the raw material into a Mobile Garbage Bin is called an injection moulding machine. This machine is a complex device that uses hydraulic operating systems to drive the various parts. 4

5 Quality Assurance At SULO Australia, we ensure that our products are safe, user friendly and built to last. All SULO manufactured MGBs are made in accordance with AS4123 and EN 840, the current Australian and International standards for MGBs, and are tested to the specific requirements of the standards to ensure consistent high quality products. NATA Accredited testing facility SULO Australia operates a NATA-Accredited MGB testing facility in Australia for Mobile Waste Containers. The facility is located at SULO s Somersby production plant and is controlled by onsite quality assurance staff. The testing facility was accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities in early 2008, allowing SULO to perform regular in-house product testing as defined by the MGB standards and also the ability to conduct third party testing. Quality is part of our everyday manufacturing process at SULO and the establishment of the on-site NATA facility means we are no longer required to send products overseas for testing. Product samples are subject to daily testing to ensure full compliance to both the EN840 and the AS4123 standards, ensuring all bins are consistently manufactured to a high standard. Sample MGBs are put through a drop test, an impact test and stress test. Further testing on weight and volume, consistent wall thickness, axle and handle diameter, strength of the bins hinges and axles, and UV stability are conducted on a regular basis. Detailed results from each test are recorded, reviewed and filed. NATA conducts regular onsite audits to ensure full compliance is maintained. All records and testing methods are reviewed and marked against specific criteria. 2 5

6 Mobile Garbage Bin standards The Australian Standard for MGBs - AS 4123 AS4123 was established in 2008 and provides the Australian waste and recycling industry with a clear standard that calls for independent third party product testing and certification to guarantee product quality. The standard covers all aspects of an MGB and sets a minimum standard for manufacture within Australia to ensure that all MGBs and MGB lifters are compatible. AS 4123 consists of seven sections covering critical areas of an MGBs design and functionality; Two wheel containers with a capacity up to 400 L for lifting devices Dimensions and design Four wheel containers with a capacity from 500 L to 1200L with flat lid(s), for trunnion and/ or lifting devices Dimensions and design Four wheel containers with a capacity from 770 L to 1300 L with dome lid(s), for trunnion and/or lifting devices Dimensions and design Four wheel containers with a capacity from 750 L to 1700 L with flat lid(s), for wide trunnion or BG and/or wide comb lifting devices Dimensions and design Performance requirements and test methods Health, safety and environment Colours, markings and designation requirements All two and four wheel MGBs manufactured by SULO are consistently tested to meet the defined requirements. The International Standard for MGBs - EN 840 DIN EN 840 is the European standard for the manufacture of mobile waste containers that specifies requirements for the dimensions and design, the performance criteria and testing, and the health and safety requirements of an MGB. SULO two and four wheeled containers are manufactured in accordance with DIN EN 840. To obtain our initial certification, SULO Australia was required to send MGB s made in the Australian manufacturing plant to an authorised testing facility in Europe, where the wheelie bins were put through a series of tests. SULO MGB Australia emerged as the only Australian manufacturer of MGB s carrying the DIN EN 840 certification. Further peace of mind Waste containers that carry the RAL quality mark are guaranteed to provide maximum usability, working safety, environmental protection and compliance with applicable standards including DIN EN 840. All SULO injection moulded four wheel containers manufactured in Germany carry the RAL quality mark. 6 6

11 2 Wheel Bins SULO two wheeled plastic Mobile Garbage Bins are Injection moulded from specially designed and Australian made high density polyethylene (HDPE). They are resistant to heat, frost, decay, chemicals and also contain special UV stabilisation to provide excellent aging characteristics. SULO MGBs are manufactured in accordance with AS4123 the current Australian Standard and EN 840, the internationally recognised standard for MGBs and contain up to 35% recycled content. SULO wheelie bins and lids are available in a range of colours that can be mixed and matched to suit your specific needs and comply with national waste policies. 84 Bin Separator Bin Separator for 2 Wheeled Bins The SULO bin separator is designed to assist in the safe manual handling of Mobile Garbage Bins (MGBs). Available in 3 sizes to suit stacks of 120, 140 and 240 litre size, the Bin Separator incorporates 4 specifically designed polyethylene blocks which slide between the rims of the MGB s. The simple pull or push cantilever action of the separator makes separating of bins safe and easy when used in conjunction with a SULO Bin Trolley. It enables a stack of MGBs to be safely tilted and manually relocated around the workplace.
