1 Colorado Community College System ACADEMIC YEAR DEGREES AWARDED WITH CLUSTER AND LABOR DATA MARCH 0

2 Academic year With and Labor Data In the academic year 08-09,,09 degrees were awarded by the colleges within the Colorado Community College System (CCCS.) These degrees were awarded in one of 49 different program areas. These programs can be grouped into 6 clusters, which according to the States Career s Initiative, are groupings of occupations / career specialties used as an organizing tool for curriculum design and instruction. In addition, CCCS awards three different Associates degrees (the AGS, AA or AS) which do not have a specific program attached or specified. There is currently legislation in progress (Senate Bill 0-088) which will allow CCCS colleges to offer these 2-year degree programs with a specific academic designation. The overwhelming majority (40%) of degrees awarded fall in the (Table.) Table displays the degree awards by Career in order of the most number of degrees awarded to the least number awarded. The various Associate s degree programs offered comprise another 25% of all degrees awarded, and the other 5% of degrees awarded are distributed among the remaining 5 clusters, with none having more than 5% of all degrees awarded. Table also includes a projected amount of new and replacement jobs available for all of the occupations associated with the various degree programs within each cluster. These are the job openings expected between 09-4, according to Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc. (EMSI.) The average entry level and median wage for all occupations tied to a degree program within each cluster are also available. 2

4 While openings are projected for occupations within all 6 clusters, several areas can be seen as particularly high growth. Job openings within law, public safety, corrections and security are expected to increase at a nearly 0% rate (Table 2), with growth in openings projected to be above % for several other clusters. Table 2 lists the degrees awarded ranked by the Career strongest projected growth.
