2 Introduction The importance of international trade has significantly increased due to global economic liberalization. Efficient and fast movement of goods internationally has become the need of the day. Therefore, the importance of freight forwarders in facilitating smooth flow of goods internationally cannot be minimized. Under such circumstances, the solidarity of the freight forwarders is must. With this objective in mind, Nepal Freight Forwarders Association was established on 23 July 1998 after merger of decade old two similar associations in the cargo field namely Cargo Agent Association of Nepal (CAAN) & Freight Forwarders of Nepal (FFAN). NEFFA is a non political, nonprofit making, non governmental association of Nepal. Mission NEFFA's mission is to facilitate international trade by delivering goods at the destination in an efficient and fast manner. Objectives The objectives of NEFFA are as follows: Safeguarding the rights and privileges of freight forwarders entrepreneurs or any firm or company related to transportation; To promote and develop national and international transportation industry business; To safeguard the rights and privileges of transportation entrepreneurs and related employees; To liaise with experts, professionals, media, academics and transport and customs experts to keep the association abreast; To perform miscellaneous tasks to fulfill the objectives of the association.
3 Membership The NEFFA Membership at present, is comprised of : a. 99 General Members ( Company only) b. 6 Associate Members (company Only) Representation The NEFFA is represented in almost all national councils / boards / committees / policy advisory bodies involved in formulating polices & programs concerning with Freight Forwarding, Logistic, Transportation business and industry. Professionalism in operation Partnership approach in working with government, international organizations Presentation of Freight Forwarding business and industry view Commitment to fairness, transparency Confidence in fair competition and private initiative Extensive consultation in deciding industry and business views Close cooperation with foreign federations / chambers Proactive role, i.e. initiating ideas and proposals
4 General Assembly and Executive Committee The highest policy making body of the NEFFA is its General Assembly which generally meets on an annual basis. The activities and functions of the NEFFA are planned and managed by the Executive Committee consisting 15 members who have tenure of three years. The Office Bearers (President, Vice Presidents, Secretary General, Treasurer and Secretary) takes care of the urgent matters on behalf of the Executive Committee. 8 Services Following are the main services being provided by NEFFA: Representing the entire Freight Forwarding business community of the country in national and international forums Preparing recommendations for promoting exports and investment Providing expertise service to exporters, importers and investors Conducting, on a regular basis, trainings, workshops, seminars on chamber management, publication, information exchange, documentation, industrial relation, productivity, entrepreneurship, quality management, environment etc. Providing "One Stop" service to its members Our international attachment includes Nepal Freight Forwarders Association is a member of the FIATA, FAPAA, IFCBA, South Asia Federation of Freight forwarders Association SAFFA, UNESCAP. 9 Activities Some major activities undertaken: 1. Organize different meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops; 2. Actively represent in meeting and conferences on Freight Forwarding Industry within and outside the country; 3. Collect and publicize data, statistics and news about Freight Forwarding industry and trade; 4. Publish souvenirs, membership directory, magazines, books and booklets, etc. Pertaining to Logistic; 5. Conduct and encourage research works on Freight Forwarding promotion to Government of Nepal from time to time; 6. Submit advice, suggestions on matters relating to transport promotion to Government of Nepal from time to time; 7. Establish cordial relations and exchange delegation with organizations of other counties with identical aims and objectives; 8. Acquire land, building and other immovable and movable properties, give and take necessary contract and obtain donation and contributions for the association; 9. Appoint staffs, technical experts or other consultants as and when required; 10. Exercise the rights provided under the statute and prevailing laws in fulfillment of all tasks necessary for safeguarding the Association s interests; 11. Perform all tasks subservient to attaining or implementing the aforesaid aims and objectives; 12. Publish Company Profiles and Reports from time to time; 13. Carry out promotional campaigns in the potential markets and establish cordial relations with national and international associations of Cargo agents and logistic Service provider.
